I ran to the dormitory and got working on all my homework. I was really tired, but I decided not to take a quick nap. Why had I liked Merula so much? She constantly insulted me, hurt my friends, and was extremely obnoxious. What did I see in her?
I grabbed my quill and started my potions homework.
I had just realized that me and Merula were in the same house, because of course, she walked into the dormitory prickling for trouble.
Apparently I had caught her attention. She had caught mine with her magenta eyes and messy hair, along with her adorable little smile-
Wait, what am I thinking? For the last time, she's my ENEMY.
"Can't believe it, (last name). You've landed yourself a detention with your enemy," Merula grinned evilly. "Maybe you're following your mad brother's footsteps. I'm sure you'll be madder, though."
"Shut it, Snyde," I said while I looked at my work, trying not to stare at Merula. "I'm busy. Can't you go just a bit without bothering me and everyone else in existence?"
"Whatever, (last name)," Merula started to walk away. "The school- and all wizards and witches in general- would be better without you."
She had parted. Yup, I hated her.
A few hours went by and I saw Rowan come into the common room. Although I didn't like her, she knew just about everything. Maybe she knew why Merula was always acting like such a jerk.
"Rowan! Rowan!" I ran towards her. "Hey, uhm... could I ask you a quick question?"
"Sure," She laughed. "I know all the answers!"
"So uhm..." I paused for a moment, then started to whisper. "Do you know why Merula is always so mean?"
Rowan's whole mood had changed. She looked like she felt bad for Merula for some odd reason.
"Rowan!" I yelled while whispering.
"Well..." Rowan suddenly got very interested in her shoes. She looked down and looked, well, down. "Her parents are in Azkaban. I think she may just really miss them."
"Oh..." I felt bad for Merula. I honestly felt pity for her. Was she really mean because of that? It must be terrible... But then again, my brother is missing and everyone thinks he served Voldemort. She couldn't have felt any worse than I have.
