I went to bed that night thinking of two things: How I was happy to be back in Hogwarts, and Merula Snyde. I lay in my bed and looked up. I only imagined if she was in here with me, the feeling of my hand flowing through her soft hair. God, it was so weird that I loved that orangish-goldish thing on her hair. I had no problem thinking about her this time, I liked her now. She's an enemy to the outside, but a friend to the inside- or more. My head was so Merula-filled that I couldn't stop thinking about every experience together...
I went back to the day where Merula and I dueled. Suddenly we were in detention, and next she was telling me about her problems out of Hogwarts. After all that came the time in the train where she kissed me, then the next where she was attacked. And finally the last memory, her holding my hand at the table, and then continuing holding my hand walking back to the dorm.
I started to doze off, mainly because it was probably already 12, and I woke up at around 4 to get ready to go back to Hogwarts. The dream started with us being in potions class. My head was probably thinking about 3 years ahead, because we didn't make this potion in year 2. It was Amortentia. Like I said, we didn't make this potion yet. But Penny being Penny, she knew everything about it. I was skilled at potions myself, so I knew about it.
"Well, class," Snape was prancing around the room. "Now that we have finished the making of the potion, why don't you all tell me what it smells like to you?"
Amortentia was supposed to smell like things you liked. It's the most powerful love potion. Drinking it could make you fall deeply in love with someone. Or you'd just be obsessed as if you're under the imperius curse.
"How about you?" Snape looked at me with his usual awful glare. "What do you smell, (last name)?"
I turned over. Me and Merula were openly holding hands. We were probably a thing, and my mind knew how much I wanted that.
Merula looked at me and smiled a bit.
"It smells like Merula's perfume, professor Snape."
Merula smiled again.
Snape looked at me with disgust, and probably sadness too. After all, I don't think anyone ever loved him.
"Anything else?"
I thought about it for a moment and smelt it once more.
"I'm getting a hint of steak-I love stake, fresh off a barbecue grill. So yeah, it smells like that."
Snape turned to Merula.
"How about you, Snyde? What do you smell?"
"Hmm..." Merula thought for a moment. "It definitely smells like the wind and fresh air that flows in my face when I'm on a broom-"
Snape gave her the, anything else? look.
"And cute little puffskiens. Along with the scent of (your name)'s Hogwarts robes."
Snape looked away in disgust and anger again. He went asking a Ravenclaw boy about what it smelled like to him.
I ignored him but still heard his echoed out,
"Um- professor Snape, sir- I'm not comfortable with saying it."
I looked over to Merula.
"Did you see his face when we were talking about each other? He looked sad and angry! It's like nobody ever loved him in his life!" I laughed, whispering. "Loser!"
Lucky Snape didn't hear us. He continued asking each student in the class what the potion smelled like to them.
"Yeah!" Merula laughed too. "You're lucky, (your name). Having me openly admit I like someone- even more so, you, is pretty rare. I don't tell lots that I like them as more than a friend. I don't even tell anyone I like them as a friend, now that I think about it."
"Well, that's great! I like you a lot too, Merula. I know for sure I'll be making you this potion for Valentine's Day."
"Would I need it? I mean..." Merula put her hands beside her back and looked down, looking cutely embarrassed. "I already fancy you..."
Snape came over and slammed the table we were at.
"Enough chit chat about fancying each other. Class is dismissed. Get out before it's a detention!"
Me and Merula rushed out of potions class and decided what to do next.
"I'm kinda hungry. Wanna grab a something to eat?" I asked Merula, hoping she was also hungry and wanted to eat.
"Sure, it's always good to grab a bite, especially if I'll be hungry and unfocused later. The most powerful witch at Hogwarts can never be unfocused!" She laughed. "Let's go."
We ran to the Great Hall and started putting food on our plates while Rowan walked over and stared at the both of us.
"Is it alright if I sit with you two?" She asked, still carrying her plate of chicken and mashed potatoes. "Or do you wanna be alone?"
I looked over at Merula and gave her the look of, let's sit alone.
"Er- Sorrh Rowan," Merula looked up at Rowan and continued to hold my hand. "I think we wanna sit alone. Is that alright?"
"Yeah." Rowan sighed and walked away to sit with some other Slytherin girls.
Me and Merula sat together and ate, just like any other day. We were talking when a Gryffindor boy by the name of Yona Moor walked over.
"Hey, why're you sitting with Snyde?" He yelled loudly. "She's a freak! A no good bully! A piece of shit, worse than her ugly hair and whatever the bloody hell that orangish thing is in it!"
The Gryffindor table laughed, Merula looked down once that happened.
"Are you two holding hands?" Yona continued loudly. "Nasty! Even (last name) likes this freak! I bet your parents in Azkaban would rather stay there than continue taking care of you!"
It looked like Merula shed a small tear. I've never seen that happen.
"Face it, Snyde, nobody loves you. I bet (last name)'s cheating on you with Haywood."
Yona laughed.
"Is it true?" Merula asked quietly under her tears. "Are you cheating on me with Haywood?"
"Merula-" I began, but she got up and almost started to walk away. "Of course not! You're the only one I li-"
Merula ran away, probably to the bathroom.
I sat there decided what to do, then realized I should go talk to her.
"Thanks, Moor!" I ran to the bathroom to find Merula. He continued to laugh while I just wanted to use the killing curse on him.
I ran through the halls and found Merula in one of the girl's bathrooms.
"Hey, Merula?" I asked softly. She sniffled a bit.
"What?" She was hiding in one of the stalls.
"Don't listen to whatever Moor says. He's only a bully. Besides, I only fancy you. How could I not like the 'Most Powerful Witch At Hogwarts?' Penny's just a friend." I said. I wanted to make her feel better.
"No..." Merula came out of the stall and came close to me. "How does he know my parents are in Azkaban? Nobody should know... I've never told anyone anything before... Only you... Can I really trust you? Do you really like me?"
I stared at her. "Of course I like you! I just said so, and besides, why would I be here if I didn't care? Merula, I really do like you. You've changed so much since our first duel. You're amazing."
She came over and hugged me. She didn't want it to be over, and neither did I. We were alone in the stall and I took my chance.
"Aren't we a thing? You hold my hand and we were even talking about each other during potions. You don't need Amortentia to make me fancy you, because I already do. I don't admit this to many, but Merula, I love you. I don't want anyone to let you feel down."
"I've never admitted this to anyone other than my parents but... I like you too. Enough to admit that I love you."
At that moment we kissed. Our lips didn't move from each other's. We didn't move from our places. Yup, when I said I loved Merula, I meant it.
During that moment, a group of Gryffindor girls walked in. They stared at us and we stopped, separated, and tried to look like we were just discussing things about the cursed vaults. It was hard to notice she wasn't crying just a few moments ago because her makeup was all over her face.
"Oh..." One of the Gryffindor girls said. "Continue your make out session. We'll wait till you're done."
All the girls laughed, and one called out, "Wait till Yona hears about this! He'll love it!"
"By the way," The other girl continued. "Being lesbian or whatever it's called is disgusting and a sin. You're definitely going to hell."
After that, the dream ended... I woke up. That didn't feel like a dream. Instead, it was a nightmare.
