The end of the summer came too quickly for all our likings. On the last evening, Mum conjured up a sumptuous dinner that included one of each of our favourites, ending with a mouth-watering treacle tart.Fred and George rounded off the evening with a display of Filibuster fireworks; they filled the kitchen with red and blue stars that bounced from ceiling to wall for at least half an hour. Then it was time for a last mug of hot chocolate and bed.
It took a long while to get started next morning. We were up at dawn, but somehow its still seemed we had a great deal to do.
Mum dashed about in a bad mood looking for spare socks and quills; people kept colliding on the stairs, half-dressed with bits of toast in their hands, I must have walked into Ron at least 3 times.
Dad nearly broke his neck, tripping over a stray chicken as he crossed the yard carrying Ginny's trunk to the car.
It seemed a stretch to fit eight people, six large trunks, three owls, and a rat into one small Ford Anglia.
"Not a word to Molly," Dad whispered to Harry as he opened the boot and showed him how it had been magically expanded so that the luggage fitted easily, and I slipped my scarf in on top. I had finally found it over the warm of the sofa. When at last, we were all in the car, Mum glanced into theback seat, where Harry, Ron, Fred, George, Percy and I were all sitting comfortably side by side, and said, "Muggles do know more than we give them credit for, don't they?"
She and Ginny got into the front seat, which had been stretched so that it resembled a park bench. "I mean, you'd never know it was this roomy from the outside, would you?"
Dad started up the engine and we trundled out of the yard, Harry twisting around for a last look at the house.
"Wait! Go back" George had forgotten his box of Filibuster fireworks. Five minutes after that, we skidded to a halt in the yard so that Fred could run in for his broomstick. I shook my head, covering my face with my hand - stupid!
We had almost reached the motor way when Ginny shrieked that she'd left her diary. By the time she had clambered back into the car, we we're running very late, and tempers were running high.
Dad glanced at his watch and over to Mum "Molly, dear —"
"No, Arthur —"
"No one would see — this little button here is an Invisibility Booster Installed — that'd get us up in the air — then we fly above the clouds. We'd be there in ten minutes and no one would be any the wiser —"
"I said no, Arthur, not in broad daylight —" We reached King's Cross at a quarter to eleven.
Dad dashed across the road to get trolleys for our trunks and we all hurried into the station."Percy first," said Mum, looking nervously at the clock over head, which showed we had only five minutes to disappear casually through the barrier. Percy strode briskly forward and vanished.
Dad went next; Fred and George following after.
"Immy you next. I'll take Ginny and you two come right after us," Mum said pointing at Harry and Ron as I swiftly moved toward the barrier. Emerging to a billowing cloud of steam and shouts of students already on the train calling to their families, I quickly found Fred and George. Helping each other heave our trunks on the train, I slipped off as they helped Ginny, to go and find Daph and Addy.
After dragging my trunk and Alpha's cage what seemed like the entire length of the train, I found them in a compartment to themselves.
"I'll be back" I said holding up a finger, and leaving my stuff with them. Dashing off back down the train, it began to rumble beneath my feet, and I only just made it back to them as the train began rolling out of the station. I stuck my head out of the window to wave at mum and dad, but had to duck back in quickly to avoid being hit by a tree branch. Harry and Ron had already gone, and Fred and George where moving off, whispering conspiratorially to each other. I caught something about Filch and Fireworks. I smiled, I'd have to get in on that one.
