The rest of school came back for the start of term and I filled Daph and Addy in on what they missed at the breakfast table on the first day of term.
Daph had spent Christmas in France with her Grandmother and had spent the previous night telling me about the boy from beauxbatons who lived next door. We had spent the night giggling and deciding whether or not she had a boyfriend now.
"Better not tell Addy," I had whispered into the darkness, and she went quiet.
"I know," She sighed, but Mother said something about choosing a nice English pureblood for me to marry, so I want to have all the fun I can before."
I frowned. "I couldn't imagine. Surely you could choose, I mean it's not 1863 anymore."
"Immy you are so lucky you're not in a traditional pureblood family." She sighed, "Our parents choose before we are born who they want, all the mothers get together and discuss who's had a girl and who's had a boy and god forbid any of be gay."
"That sounds awful." I said, "I couldn't even imagine."
We both fell quiet after that, lost in thought and didn't say another word till morning.

I had a piece of toast in my hand as I explained to them quietly, checking over my shoulder every few seconds to make sure we couldn't be heard.
"So they brewed polyjuice potion to sneak into the common room, and try to get Draco to admit to being the heir of Slytherin."
"For real?" Addy asked, "Polyjuce? That's not exactly easy."
I nodded. "I sat and talked to them as Crabbe and Goyle for a good hour, it was so strange."
"But why Malfoy?" Daph asked.
"Because they hate him," I said, "And will take any chance to blame him."
Daph rolled her eyes. "But Draco is just a petulant spoilt child."
"I know, and in all honesty I don't think the heir is actually in Slytherin. No offence to you guys but none of us are actually smart enough to pull it off."
They both nodded sagely, and a loud voice interupted before we could discuss it further.
"Did you hear about Granger?" Draco drawled. " I heard she turned herself into a cat and is stuck like that so she's been hidden away somewhere."
"Oh, that's the other thing." I said quietly. "Hermione got her hairs mixed up and drank cat hair in her potion."
"No!" Addy gasped.
"I think it's gonna be ok, she's in the hospital wing but I don't know what she's told madam Pomphrey."
"I would like to hear that story," Said Daph with a giggle. "I swear Pomfrey never believes the stories she gets told."
------------------------------------
The term passed rather uneventfully. The attacks had stopped and many people thought the heir of Slytherin must of lost his or her nerve.
Gilderoy Lockhart seemed to think he himself had made the attacks stop. We overheard him telling Professor McGonagall so while the Gryffindors were lining up forTransfiguration, and we were being escorted by Snape to Charms.
"I don't think there'll be any more trouble, Minerva," he said, tapping hisnose knowingly and winking. "I think the Chamber has been locked for good this time. The culprit must have known it was only a matter of time before I caught him. Rathersensible to stop now, before I came down hard on him. You know, what the school needs now is a morale-booster. Wash away the memoriesof last term! I won't say any more just now, but I think I know just the thing..."
