I overslept the next morning, and tripped several times on the way out of the dorms on my way to breakfast.
i was struggling to fasten the button at the neck of my robes when the toe of my shoe caught on the top step leading to the entrance hall.
"Nicely done Weasley" A voice drawled, "Very graceful. I didn't know you were training for the ballet." A few sniggers.
I looked up and my eyes locked with a pair steely grey ones.
"Malfoy ugh." I groaned, "I am really not in the mood right now." and pushed up off the floor. His lip curled and rolled his eyes.
"Whatever." He said with a dismissing wave. "I wanted to talk to you about quidditch. I heard you were the new cap-"
"Let me stop you right there." I said, "I'll be changing up the entire team, so you'll just have to try out like everyone else."
"My Father-" he starts.
"Yeah, i know, I know. You're father will hear about this." I mimic, air quoting him.
"actually Weasley, my Father said he buy the whole team Nimbus 2001s if I get one. As a reward i suppose you could say. I thought you might like to know." He drawled, inspecting his nails. he turned on his heel and began to walk away, polished shoes clicking on the marble floor.
"I don't take bribes Malfoy" I yelled after him. "You'll have to try out!" He didn't turn and I huffed.
"Hey what was that about?" Daph asked, coming out up the stairs. "Also where'd you go?"
"Oh nothing just Malfoy being a prat as usual." I said turning to go into the hall. "And what do you mean where'd I go? Why the hell didn't you wake me?"
"Hmmmm oh yeah I set the clocks half and hour fast so we wouldn't be late, didn't I tell you?" she looked at me. "Oh my god, I forgot to tell you" she covered her mouth with her hand. "I am so sorry."
I rolled my eyes and linked our arms together. "You're so annoying you know that right?." I said with a chuckle.
She giggled as we walked into the hall. "Sorry," She whined, "I just didnt want to be late."
I broke away from her and sat down on the bench next to Addy as she went around to sit on the other side. I reached for a piece of toast and began to butter it, when Addy asked,
"Have you seen Snape yet?"
"No, why?" Daph replied, as at the same time I said, "He's at the staff table." and pointed.
"Oh nothing, I just want my timetable." He said and took a sip of pumpkin juice after looking up at the teachers "I refuse to put up with another year of double potions with the Gryffindors on a Monday morning."
"Hey!" I said, "That's me. I'm the one that hates potions remember."
"Just because Snape hates you."" He teased.
"He does not!" I said indignantly and he gave me a look. "Ok maybe he does but that's besides the point."
He was about to reply, but he was interrupted by the post owls swooping in. One landed next to Addy and pecked his hand aggressively.
"Okay, okay, jeez." He said and pulled the scroll off the owls leg. I was distracted by a ruckus from the Gryffindor table.
A boy from with a thick Irish lilt shouted, "Look everyone. Weasley's got a Howler!"
Malfoy let out a bark of laughter from his seat at the other end of the table.
Ron's face was pasty, and his hands clammy as he stared at the red envelope. "Come on," I muttered. "Open it! It'll be worse if you don't." I knew he couldn't hear me, but he reached out with a shaking hand and took the letter from Errol's beak. A round faced boy shoved his fingers in his ears just in time to muffled Mum's enraged voice.
