Later that day the sun had set and we were all gathered around for the tribunal. We were in the forest with these benches all around with different team banners: Crimson Angels, Verde Maximus, and Azure Apostles.
I was sitting next to Avery and her team: Crimson Angels. Will was sat at Verde Maximus with George.
"We're gathered here tonight on this hallow ground beneath the great moon and stars to honor an old tradition." David spoke in his Braveheart voice.
"Welcome to the tribunal!" David shouted. Campers started to cheer. David put his hand up signaling that he was about to speak again. All the campers quieted down.
"Newbies! Rise!" David shouted.
I looked around. Kids started to stand up. I didn't want to cause public speaking makes me really nervous, but I pulled myself together and stood up. Kids kept going up to find there team. Will was called up and he got Verde Maximus. Soon it was my turn. I took a deep breath and walked up to David.
"How are you enjoying camp Mackenzie?" David asked.
"So far so good," I say with a smile. "Oh and please call me Mack."
He smiled softly at me before shouting, "Verde Maximus!" I walked off the stage and sat down next to Will. I smiled and he smiled back.
"We are Apostles and we're gonna win we beat you last year and we'll beat you again!" Sean sang. Then the Apostles copied as campers clapped to make a beat. Will and I look at each other confused as we stand off to the side of Verdes Maximus. Some campers shout "Noooo" and "Boooo!!"
"Were not rude, we're not mean, we're just money honey we're the green machine." George says and does a little dance. Me and Will laugh amongst each other.
Avery then jumped on a bench and started singing, "Stronger than steel hotter then the sun, Red won't stop til we get the job done." Avery then walks up to Sean and does a small chest pump and walks back over to Crimson Angels as they repeat what she says.
"I'm sure your fine, I'm sure you sweet," Sean says. "I've got bad news we can't be beat!" The Azules team repeated.
"You wish!" Avery yells. I laugh and smile at her while shaking my head.
"Greatest week ever right?" David shouted. Silence. "That's all right, you'll get there."
George then begins to sing, "You like our style we like the way we rock." We repeated. "Green is the team that can't be stopped."
"Reds gonna beat you, Reds gonna score." Avery shouted. Then her team repeated. "Reds gonna win god loves us more." She says while blowing a kiss towards Sean. We laugh and cheer at this.
"Alright, God loves us all equally!" David says.
I chuckled lightly with a smile on my face.
"Let the games begin!" Kristen yells. She then pulls a blanket off of a chalkboard with columns that day each of our team names. I smirk to myself. It's competition time.
