I woke up the next morning to Cupid setting a tray of donuts and chocolate milk down next to me on the bed. I sat up and smiled drowsily. "Morning," he told me.
"Morning," I replied.
He took off his shorts and shoes and sat next to me, pulling me against him. "I have no idea how to make donuts, so I bought some instead," he told me, taking a bite of a sprinkled donut.
"Well at least you got my favorites," I said, eyeing the donuts, deciding if I wanted chocolate glazed or sprinkled.
"Of course I got your favorite," he said through a mouthful. "I know all your favorites."
"Oh really? My favorite color?"
"Shades of blue, preferably ice blue."
"My favorite food?"
"Ice cream."
"My favorite hobby?"
"Well, after last night, it's getting pounded into the mattress by yours truly."
I smiled at him coyly. Well, after last night, I guess that was true. "My favorite book?"
"The Lonely Snowflake."
"How'd you know that?" I asked, because I hadn't read it in forever and I don't think I had told him.
"It's on your shelf and I just sort of guessed based on the facts I know about you. What's my favorite book?"
"Porn."
He laughed and kissed my head. "No."
"Uh...oh! That one classic book you read, the human one. Withering Heights."
"Wuthering Heights, but yes, that's true. What's my favorite hobby?"
"Pounding me into the mattress."
"Correct, and my favorite food?"
"Hm. Any aphrodisiac."
"Correct again, Mr. Frost. Have you been stalking me?"
"Every second of every day." I kissed him and took a bite of my sprinkled donut.
"My favorite color?"
"Green."
"Of course not. It's pink."
I cocked a brow at him.
"It's true. It's a symbol of love. It's not my favorite color to wear. Green is my favorite color to wear since it matches my eyes, and yes that was a gay statement. Though otherwise I love pink."
"Maybe I should wear pink more often."
"Of course you should." He leaned down and kissed me tenderly.
Sex became like kissing. After we kissed, it's all we did. After we had sex, it's all we did. We sat in that bed for the majority of the day, naked and having sex. Our day consisted of making love in bed after breakfast, then we cooked lunch, ate at the table, made love on the table, and then went to the living room, watched porn on TV, had sex on the couch, went back to the bedroom, roleplayed, then made love again, took a shower, made love in the shower, slept for a couple hours, made love in bed, cooked supper, ate supper, made love on the table again, went back to the bedroom, made love multiple times through the night, sleeping for some time, making love for some time, sleep, sex, sleep, sex and so on until we couldn't do it anymore. I mean, we had the entire weekend to ourselves. Of course we'd make love like crazy.
The next morning, we woke up to Mom shouting, "Jack! I'm home!"
"I'm here, too!" Mo shouted.
Cupid and I bolted out of bed. He shut the door since it had been open all night and we quickly put on our clothes. I put on my underwear, shorts, and the shirt he gave me that said his name on the back. He put on his sweatpants I had kept forever and stayed shirtless. We picked the rest of our clothes up and tossed them into the bathroom. Mom started to knock on the door and I had told her Cupid would be staying the night so she wouldn't care that he was here.
I opened the door as Cupid sat on the bed. "Hi Mom," I greeted and hugged her. "Hi Mo."
"Hey Jack," he replied.
"Did you guys have fun?" Cupid asked.
"Yes," Mom said. She looked at me and then around the room. Then she glanced at Mo and he smirked.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing," she replied, smiling. "Does it smell funny to you in here?"
"Uh, no..."
Cupid stood up. "Why? What's it smell like?" he asked, seeming to know something I didn't.
"I can't put my finger on it, but..."
"Yeah, it's pretty familiar," Mo said.
"I think it's-"
"FINE," Cupid said. "It smells like sex. Happy?"
"Oh we knew what it smelled like sweetie," Mom said, and even though I was embarrassed and confused I couldn't help but smile. She didn't call just anyone "sweetie."
"I didn't know it had a smell," I mumbled.
"Oh it does," Mo said.
"I'm just curious as to why it smells like that through the house," Mom chided.
"Oh my God," Cupid grumbled.
"I'm gonna close the door now," I said.
"Fine, fine. Go ahead. I'm gonna have to go buy some air fresheners."
I shut the door and sighed, looking at Cupid. My mother knew how to embarrass me so much. I grabbed my back, because my lower back was in a whole lot of pain. After getting screwed rotten over and over again, I'm certain it's common for the pain to rise. "I could really use that massage right about now," I told him.
He smirked, looking satisfied with himself, and picked me up. He sat me on the bed and took off my shirt. He grabbed some lotion and started to massage my back like he was a professional in massage therapy. Slowly, the pain drifted away, but every now and then I'd get a slight shoot of pain go through me. Maybe that was a sign if he was really good. If it hurts, you know you've been screwed so well.
After our massage, we went into the kitchen to find Mom sitting at the table, lighting an incense. "Hungry?" she asked.
"Yeah," I yawned.
"Hey, I'm gonna go home. I need some new clothes and my parents are probably wondering when I'll be home. I told them I had to stay with the humans for the weekend."
"Alright. See you later, and bring your sweatpants back."
He kissed me before walking out the door.
"Jack," Mom said.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Sit down."
I sat down and looked at her. I could tell she was about to tell me something important, so I was kind of nervous. "What is it?"
She sat down and rest her head in her hand, smiling simply at me. "Well, I-"
"Oh my God!" I exclaimed, noticing the huge-ass diamond ring on her ring finger. She smiled, seeing I caught on to her announcement. "Mom! Are you engaged?" She nodded and I hugged her. "This ring is so pretty - and huge! How did it happen?"
She smiled and said, "Well, we went on a walk and just out of the blue he popped the question. It really was romantic even though it doesn't sound like it. It was wonderful, truly it was. The best part was everything he said. He said he had been crazy about me in high school, and I felt so stupid I never game him a chance. I was too preoccupied with your father and Cupid-"
"What?" I asked. "Cupid?"
"Yeah, Cupid's father, one of the other Cupid you know. I think he's Cupid the...20th? Hell if I know. Though yeah, him, me, and your father were all in some love triangle, and Cupid's mother, Joli."
"What? Mom - I- you - what?"
"Well, you know I was a flirt. I flirted with Cupid, or as I called him - Cupidity, because he called me Horse Whinny. Then I flirted with your father as well. For some reason, Cupidity had the idea him and I were suppose to be together, but I know for a fact we weren't. Then Joli had the biggest crush on your father. So she hated me and Cupidity hated your father because I liked him more. Though once they saw we were an item, they ended up finding each other. Everyone knows they aren't meant to be together. They just...were two lost souls swimmin in a fish bowl - year after year."
I raised a brow at her. "It's a human song."
"So..." I didn't even know what to say. "How weird is that Cupid and I are together?"
"Pretty weird. Loves works in mysterious ways I guess."
No. It works in either a cruel way, or a wonderful way. I finally figured it out. Dad was suppose to be with Cupid's mom. I just know he was. Maybe Cupid was rubbing off on me and I could just tell. Cupid's dad, though, I have no idea who he's suppose to be with. It makes me wonder why he was so determined to be with my mom. "Why did he like you? Cupid's dad I mean." I asked.
"I'm not exactly sure. We use to be pretty good friends as kids and we shared a first kiss together in middle school. Maybe he just never got over me or something."
I nodded. "Okay, well congrats Mom."
"There's one other thing," she said.
"Yeah?"
"Well, Mo and I truly do love each other, and he said he's been meaning to propose for a while. He bought the ring a few months ago actually, but there's another reason why he just might have proposed."
"What's that?" I asked.
"Well...I'm pregnant."
My eyes grew wide. "Mom! You're pregnant?! Oh my God! How far along?"
"I'm two months. I'm due in January."
"Oh, do you know the gender yet?"
"It's a girl. It's suppose to be. With yout father I had to have someone to follow him and now that you're here I have to have someone to follow me. So it's a girl."
"Is her name going to be Winnie?" I asked.
"No. I plan to call her Noelle. It means winter."
"Oh, I'm so excited, Mommy! I just can't wait now."
"Me either. The wedding will be quick and small."
"When is it?"
"In two weeks. I'm just going to wear a white dress, get dolled up and go to the capitol building."
"Okay...Mrs. Moon."
She smiled. "I'm gonna make breakfast."
"Okay." Even though she just gave me two pieces of wonderful news, I couldn't stop thinking about the fact my parents weren't meant to be, and that they basically ruined Cupid's life by making two people who weren't meant to be together have a child. Was it Dad's fault...or Mom's? I glanced at her. Mom might've been a flirt, but even I knew she was pretty innocent. "Did dad ask you to be with him?" I asked.
"Yep."
"Did he know Mrs. Heart liked him?"
"Yep. He was kind of an ass. He knew she liked him and kind of lead him on, which really turned me off. Joli and I were also friends. I always said her and Cupidity should get together, but she was repulsed by him. A part of him did like her though," she said. "But he never let me go I guess. I felt bad because I dated the guy my best girlfriend liked - and everyone knows that's a bitch move." She sighed, looking forlorn and nostalgic, also slightly guilty.
"Actually Mom, I'm not too hungry."
"You sure?"
"Yeah. I'll see you later." I walked over and put my hand on her tummy. "And I'll see you later Noelle. Okay? Okay."
Mom smiled at me and kissed my head. "Be careful. Have fun. Blah blah blah."
"Bye Mom." I put on my shoes and skipped out the door. I walked the few blocks over to Cupid's house. I only had ever been to Cupid's house a few times. In elementary school, I was forced to go because I had to go to his birthday parties. Back then, you had to invite everyone or else you'd get in trouble. I was friends with Cupid back then, but I didn't want to go because it was technically the first day of winter - which is mine and Mom's day. Other than that, I had only been when I dropped off his dog I found when we were in fourth grade and a last week when we had to stop by to get his wallet. I knew where his room was, and thankfully it was on the first floor. His window was open and I jumped up. "Hi."
He turned around, startled from whatever he was doing at his dresser. "Hi," he said. He pulled me in and looked over his shoulder. "What're you doing here?"
"I-"
"Cupid!" a man's voice shouted.
Cupid's eyes went wide and he told me to hide in the closet, which I did. The closet door was made of plastic slats, so I could see through it easily but they couldn't see me. Mr. Heart entered with Mrs. Heart following. "Yeah Dad?"
"What have I told you?"
"Not much."
"Sandy said he saw you with Jack Frost again."
"So?"
"So I told you not to hang out with him."
"But he's my friend Dad," Cupid stated sternly.
"I don't give a shit, son. He's a bad person."
"How can you say that?"
"Because everyone knows snow has caused the death of tons of people. Avalanches, hypothermia-"
"You can get hypothermia from stuff other than snow, too, Dad."
"When it snows, the crops die. Some people are desperate for crops, they need them to sell and eat. Snow causes death among many people. That's why no one has ever liked the Frosts."
"Liked? Liked? Since when do people liek things Dad? You don't have any room to talk either. You've caused people to kill themselves, to kill others out of jealousy and vengeance because you've screwed up so many people's love lifes."
"Well that's what I get when Frost screwed up mine!"
"What the hell are you talking about? Jack has hardly ever spoken to you."
"His father, Jack Sr. He knew Joli was suppose to be with him, but he still stole Winnie from me - and I'm suppose to be with her!"
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"He knew for a fact he was suppose to be with your mother. I even told him that, and yet he still went for Winnie. He was an ass. When he died, I was glad, but of course Mo came tramping along-"
"They're meant to be together Dad. I would know."
"Shut up. If I ever see you with that boy, or hear about you being with him - you'll regret it for the rest of your life." He stormed out of the room, leaving Cupid and his mom. She looked at him sadly, and I had never seen someone look so depressed and torn. She left the room and he slammed the door, locking it. He opened the closet door and looked down at me, sorrowful.
"I'm sorry you had to hear that," he told me quietly. He climbed into the closet with me, sitting across from me.
I shut the door and sighed. "It's fine. My mom told me that today, about how your parents and my parents were in a big love triangle-square thing. How ironic?"
He looked down and sighed, too. "He's so wrong. I don't know why he thinks your mom and him should be together."
"Me either."
"I shot your mom and Mo with an arrow last week. I forgot to tell you, but they're meant to be together."
"My dad and your mom should've been together, and he did know your mom had a crush on him. Yet he still went for my mom. So my dad basically screwed you over."
"I don't care. I don't."
"To lighten the mood, I have some exciting news."
"What?"
"My mom is pregnant - and engaged."
He smiled. "That's wonderful."
"God. This is depressing."
"Your mom being pregnant and engaged?"
"No, just finding out about our parents."
"Let's go to your house."
"What if someone sees us?"
"I don't care. This isn't the first time my dad has said something about it. His friends have told him they've seen us out together. I'll handle it again."
"I love you."
"I know." He kissed my forehead and then my lips. "Let's go." We climbed out of the closet. He unlocked the door but we climbed out through the window. We stopped to get some ice cream first and then went to my house. We lounged on my bed as Mom went out to spend time with Mo. The ice cream made me a little bit happier, but I was still glum and so was Cupid. We made love to get our minds off of things, and slowly things were returning back to normal.
Or so I thought.///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
