Katherine Willis loved to read. She loved reading Lord of the Rings to be exact.

Katherine POV~

*sigh*

I was sitting in the library at school reading Lord of the Rings. I knew I had calculus homework but I really wanted to finish this chapter. And then maybe the next.

"Hey Kale."

I turned around at the sound of the voice. "Oh hey Parker," I replied.

"Don't you have like, bio crap to do?" Parker asked me in a bored tone. He plopped down into the chair next to me with a loud thump and was rewarded with a 'shhh' from the librarian. With a flip of his hair and a roll of the eyes, he reached over and snagged the book from my hands.

"What're you doing?" I protested. I was right in the middle of a good part. Well, a part with Legolas in it.

"Seeing this garbage," he replied as he rifled through the pages while making sure not to lose my place. "Tolkien is a weird fellow eh?"

"Um... Sure," I said. I just wanted my book back. Before I could add anything else my friend, Emeline, skipped up to me.

"Hey," she said, a bit loudly. She glanced at me and Parker and said, "Parker reads? I thought he only cubed and skateboarded." When she said that, Parker looked up and gave her a mean look.

"Dude, I'm just seeing what Kale here, is reading," he complained.

"Well you're distracting Katherine so stop," Emeline snapped. She snatched the book from his hands and handed it back to me.

Ignoring Parker's hurt looks, I thanked Emeline, who wandered away, and then proceeded to immerse myself in the book. I was only a paragraph in until I was interrupted by someone else.

"Hey Kale, what was the engineering homework?" Christian, the 'short one', as we called him, waved his hands in front of the page I was reading.

"It's on the homework thing," I mumbled while still reading my book. Maybe the library was not a good place to read, what with all of my friends crowding around me and stuff.

"Kale!" Christian exclaimed. "Engineering is first period and it's five minutes until homeroom!"

"Christian Kulsic!" Mrs. Maxwell shouted. "You will keep your voice down and remember there are other people in this library too!" With an admonishing glare, she returned to scanning the newspaper she was currently reading.
"Kale, Kale, Kale," Christian begged. "Please, please, please."

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Parker get up and leave. Probably fed up with all of Christian's whining. He should try being me. Wait, no. He should try being in my place.

"Chrissy," I started irritated, "you need to start being responsible and checking the homework."

"I can't though!" He groaned. "Markiplier is too addicting to watch. And don't call me Chrissy!"

I snorted, markiplier was some YouTuber who Christian was apparently obsessed with. Shaking my head, I returned to my book and blocked out the sound coming from Christian's mouth.

*BRRRIINNG!*

The bell rang, signaling the fact we need to go to homeroom. I walked past the table where my other friends were packing up their stuff.

"Hey Katherine," Liv said, as she struggled to stuff her biology textbook into her already overflowing bag.

"Hi Kale." Samzin was trying to get his iPad back from Christian who was clutching it to his chest.

"Morning," Catherine and Serena said as they attempted to do some last minute printing.

I waved to all of them and proceeded out the doors. Just another typical morning at Ocean View.
