"oh, honestly. haven't you ever seen a gay person before?"

"Mali, we should head back," Colletta's voice rang out, breaking Mali from her trance. "It's going to be dark soon, Filch'll have our heads for being out past curfew." The two girls were sitting against the base of a wide oak tree, staring at the Black lake. The sun was just dipping below the horizon, a spot of light against the dark milky waters of the lake.

"You go on, Lottie," Mali said. "I'm going to stay here for a bit."

     "Alright, don't get caught."

"I won't." Lottie spun around and stalked away from Mali, towards the castle.  The girl under the tree took in the nature around her, breathing in the air, which smelled of fresh grass and sap, feeling the breeze from the waters of the lake.

After close to three-quarters of an hour, when she was surely out past curfew, she saw three figures rushing towards the Groundskeeper's hut, Hagrid. "Harry?" She whispered, standing up to walk after them. No more than four strides were accomplished before a hand clamped down on her arm, spinning her around.

     "Don't, Fallon."

"Malfoy? What on earth are you doing-"

"What do you think? I'm going to catch Potter and his friends after curfew."

"Malfoy, we're out after curfew. If you turn them in, we'll get in trouble as well."

"Not nearly as much, though," He took her arm and dragged her along to outside Hagrid's home, where the duo had just seen the other's go inside. "Come'on, let's go around back, there's a window."

"Malfoy, I'm not helping you spy on my friend!"

"Friend, singular?" He taunted, raising his eyebrows.

"Well, yeah," responded Mali. "Granger and Weasley aren't really my friends."

"Don't let them hear that! I believe they've taken a shining to you."

"Oh please, Granger dislikes me at best, Weasley tolerates me for Harry's sake." Draco scowled.

"I still can't believe that you're such good friends with Potter."

"Awwww, is someone still a little jealous that the chosen one rejected them?" Mali teased, poking Draco's cheek with her index finger.

     "Oh shut it. Holy-"

"What?" Mali asked. Malfoy grabbed her waist to spin her around, positioning her so she could see through Hagrid's window. A large golden egg rattled on the table, the preliminary cracks just visible. Slowly, it cracked open to reveal-

     "A dragon? Draco, that's a dragon!"

"I know." The two children craned their heads to see through the window, when suddenly, all four people inside swiveled to look at them. "Shit." Draco grabbed Mali's hand and dragged her back towards the castle at a sprint.

     "Malfoy, where are we going?"

     "To McGonagall!"

"Oh, now you've lost it! Go on without me, then. I'm no snitch, and I won't help you mess with my friend!"

"Are you barking-"

"No way! I'm going back to the common room. Enjoy detention, Malfoy."

"Oh- wait- ugh! Fine, fine, I'm coming," Draco jogged after the girl. "But I'll get something on them, I just know it."
