America was supposed to be just and have "freedom and equality for all" But it doesn't. And that needs to change, because we are here. We are people too. We deserve equal rights. We will not be silent. You cant hold us forever. We'll break all the glass ceilings you throw at us. America has existed since 1776. 1776. And only now, 2020 do we have our first woman vice president. She is also our first vice president of Asian descent and our first back vice president. It took us 244 years to put a woman in office. How long will it take to have a woman president and not a Vice President. How long will it take to have a black woman as president. How long will it take to have a Native American woman as president. How long will it take to have a queer woman as president? How long will it take to have a non-binary or gender non-conforming person as president? How long will it take us to fully overcome the bigotry, the hate, the discrimination, the slavery, the racism, the denial of equal rights, and so many others.
You don't think America has discrimination and racism and all those other things? You didn't know that Mount Rushmore was once sacred to Native American, Lakota to be specific, land? You didn't know that it used to be called the Six Grandfathers before it was desecrated by white men who carved the faces of their favorite leaders into it? You didn't know that every single president America has ever had was a white man until Barack Obama? You didn't know that 12 Presidents of America owned slaves? If you didn't know at least one of those, than how can you know all the other unsung horrors, the bigotry and the violence. Some of you might say that those things happened long ago. No, they're still happening today. These things happened in America, and are still happening. An army of people who didn't want Biden to be their president, swarmed the Capitol of the United States of America and broke into a building, threatening to hang Vice President Pence. How did that happen you ask? Because we let it. There were multiple reports of this attack on social media days before it happened, and nothing was done. More than 140 people were injured and five people died. How did this happen? It happened because no one stopped it. Is there a way we can stop this from happening in the future? Yes, instead of storming a building, organize a peaceful protest. Instead of death threats, write an article detailing what happened. Instead of promoting violence and hate, be kind, use your words, you can fight with words, you can be respectful and still say why hurting others is wrong. You can listen to other viewpoints without having to agree with them. Just don't be silent. If you're silent, they cant hear what you're trying to say. So don't give up. You're not alone. Rise up, and try to fix things. Speak out when you see someone get called a slur. Stand up to bullies. Rise up against discrimination. America needs a new start, a new beginning. Teach love and kindness instead of hate and discrimination. If you want a new beginning, help us get there. These three lines are our symbol ||| A symbol representing love and kindness instead of hate, discrimination and silence. |||
