Sydney and I grab the little stuff we came with and leave the villa after I've made sure everything is back in its place.
When we make it back home, Keith's car is parked in front of my garage. I groan and turn the ignition off. "Let's go." Sydney jumps out of the car. I follow. We enter the mansion, and there's people up and about busy with decorations.
"Come on. Let's find Karen." I pull Sydney by her hand through the busyness. Her and Keith are sitting at the garden table having tea.
Sydney and I join them. Sydney sits between Keith and I.
My mom crosses her arms and puts a smile on her face. "Welcome back Sydney. It feels like it's been forever since I've seen your face around here."
Sydney smiles back but doesn't say anything. "Aren't you excited about your mother's visit tonight?" She asks. Sydney nods. "But uhm, why all the fancy decorations?"
Karen sips her tea. "Well. Your mom is a very special person in this family. Your mom has done plenty for me. A beautiful family dinner is the least I could do."
I roll my eyes. The only reason why she's doing this for Aunt Phindile is because she wants her to be more flexible when it comes to Sydney and I. She wants her way, and she always gets what she wants.
"Do you have a dress for tonight?" Karen asks Sydney. Sydney shakes her head. "No. But I'm on it." Karen nods.
Keith has been on his phone from the moment we arrived. It's like he's avoiding us...or me. "You're very quiet." I say to him as the girls go on about tonight.
Keith looks up from his phone. "Oh sorry. I'm just making sure that when I return to Seattle everything is not too chaotic."
I didn't know Keith was going back to Seattle so soon. "Oh, already? You just got here." I say. Keith turns his phone off and looks at me. "Time is money and money is time. Both are very precious to me as much as I'd like to stay."
I nod my head. Keith always likes having things done and in control. "Did Sydney not tell you about my offer for the two of you to come with me?" Keith asks me. I shake my head. "No, she didn't mention anything."
"Well, I'm leaving after tomorrow. I'm inviting the both of you, if you're interested, because Sydney seems keen on Seattle." He says.
I nod my head. "I don't think it's a bad idea. But I think you should go with her and Thando. Thando deserves it. I have a business to 'run'. I've already taken enough time off as it is."
Keith smiles. "A man dedicated to his work. I respect that." He adjusts himself on his seat. "I don't have a problem. I'll take both girls for just four days. Should be enough."
I smile. "I agree. I just need to get Karen to say yes about Thando." Keith lightly chuckles. "Good luck with that." I sigh, looking at my mother who is focused on Sydney whilst she talks.

It's almost time for dinner and Sydney's mom is on her way. Karen and Jason are standing nearby the table, behaving like teenagers that think they're in love.I sigh as I join them. I'm wearing a plain red suit and one of my favourite Giorgio Armani men's formal shoes.
My parents turn to look at me. Jason takes a drink from his glass. "Evening Andre. I haven't seen you since the party of the bid." I shove my hands into my pockets. "I know."
"By the way, you lost the Malibu penthouse. I tried." He adds. My face falls. I was really looking forward to winning that one.
A penthouse in Malibu. There's many more, but I wanted that one in particular.
"What was the last bet?" I ask him. "R800 000." He says. "Really dad? You couldn't outprice R800 000?"
Jason drinks from his glass again, almost finishing the content. I notice mother roll her eyes at him. "He's playing with you. He lost it, but I came in about an hour after you left. I won the bid for you. R800 000."
My eyes move between my parents. "Did you guys compete against each other for a penthouse that's meant for me?" They both smile at each other.
"Your mother thought it would be better for her to be the bid winner just in case I lose everything." My father tells me.
I look at my mom. That isn't close to why she did it. She wants to be able to take it away if I decide to go astray. She looks at me, a smirk on her face. I shake my head. I'm not letting her into my head tonight.
If she thinks she'll hold me using the penthouse, she can think again. I can get myself my own one.
