My alarm rings at quarter to six the next morning. I slowly get out of bed, making my way to the bathroom.I wash my face in the sink before turning the shower on. Thando opens the door.
"Morning." I wave back. "I'll be done in about five minutes." I say to Thando. She closes the door.
I get out of my clothes, washing myself under the hot water.
When I'm done, I wrap a towel around my naked body, heading back to the room.
Thando walks into the bathroom, closing the door.
I pull on my uniform and do my hair. This time I put on my favourite black pumps.
I walk out of the room, looking around once again as I walk into the kitchen.
I make a cup of tea and a sandwich and clean after myself when I'm done.
Mrs Miller arrives into the kitchen at least two minutes later. "Morning Sydney." She greets me.
"Morning Ma'am." I greet back. She looks around. "Where's Thando?"
"I believe she's still getting ready." Mrs Miller nods. "Please tell her to speed up. The boys are almost back."
As if on queue, the front door opens. Mrs Miller waves me away. I rush to the room and help Thando get ready quicker.
We run across the house together and stand beside Mrs Miller as she hugs her family.
"The trip was amazing mother." A voice says. I look up and my eyes almost get stuck on the stranger before me.
Thando bumps my shoulder. "Stop staring." She giggles. I roll my eyes, a smile on my face.
One of the gentlemen kiss Mrs Miller, lifting her off her feet. She giggles before being put back down. How romantic.
She pats down her dress, softly clearing her throat.
"Boys, meet one of our newest, Sydney. She is Phindile's daughter. Come here Sydney."
I step forward. Mr Miller shakes my hand. "Pleasure to make your acquaintance."
I smile at him. "Pleasure is mine Sir." I shake hands with Andre next. He has a much tighter grip than Mr Miller.
"Welcome."
"Thank you.""Isn't she pretty?" Mrs Millers asks them. I slightly laugh.
"Indeed she is. Beautiful I might say." Andre answers first. I look up at him and he's already looking at me.
I look back down with a smile. "Well Andre, she's yours. You wanted your own, here she is."
I turn towards Mrs Miller. I don't know if it's in my head, but the way she said it kind of sounded a little off.
"Then I hope she won't give me any trouble." Andre says.
"I have to get to work. I'll be just on time for lunch." Mr Miller excuses himself.
"But you just got back." Mrs Miller complains. "Ladies, let's go. It's probably best we leave them alone." Andre calls.
Thando goes her way, probably to do something. I stay with Andre, uncertain of what to do.
"Coffee?" I ask. He smiles at me. "What's your surname?"
"Mdlalose. Sydney Mdlalose." I answer. Andre chuckles. "I was joking. I already knew that. It makes sense why you're so beautiful. Not far from Aunt Phindile."
Aunt? He addresses uMama as Aunt? How funny. But respectful.
"But anyway. I'd love coffee. Bring it to my room. Don't tell mother." He whispers.
This boy is going to get me into trouble.

"Mr Andre." I knock. Andre opens his bedroom door. This time he's not wearing a suit. Instead he's wearing a pair of plain blue jeans and a white T-shirt.
"Put it over there please." He points to the table next to his bed. Andre leans against the cupboard.
I place it on the table. I turn my head slightly towards him. "What's your story, Sydney?"
How does he expect me to answer that? I clear my throat. "And what if I don't have one?"
Andre chuckles. "C'mon, everyone has a story."
"Then, what's your story Mr Andre? If you tell me yours, I'll tell you mine." I turn my body fully facing him.
He moves a tad closer to me, keeping his hands in his jean pockets.
"Ladies first." I roll my eyes chuckling. "Would you like something to eat, Sir?"
"Mmh, I'm good thank you." He says. "But it doesn't mean I'll forget about this." He whispers in my ear.
My entire body freezes, feeling his breath on my neck.
I quickly dart away from him and leave the room. Thando walks past. "And then wena(you)?"
She laughs, soft enough for the whole house not to hear her.
"Ungahleki(don't laugh) Thando. You don't even know what happened."
"Yeah right." She says as she leaves me standing alone. I lean against the door.
I better get back to work.
