Andre's P.O.V
Last night Tara left the house quite late. My dad offered to take her to her hotel leaving my mother and I alone. She couldn't even look at me as I almost stared her down.

I'm disappointed. I'm irritated. I'm mad.

I know she knew about this. Yet she proceeded to let me fall for Sydney. But I have to be sure.

As I walk down our fleet of stairs and enter the kitchen, I find my mother standing across the window that looks out into the garden. "Morning mother."

She slightly turns, continuing to stir her coffee. "Morning Andre." I lean my back against the counter, keeping the distance between us. "How are you?"

My mother lightly chuckles. "Are you trying to have a conversation with me?" I shrug with my shoulders. "I don't see anything wrong with that."

Karen turns her face fully towards me. Her smile absent. "What do you want Andre?"

I look back at her. "What? We can't have a decent son-to-mother conversation?"

My mother moves her attention back to the garden. "I'm the wrong person to play dumb with Andre. I know you want to ask me about whatever Tara spoke to you about."

A small smile plays on my lips. "Okay. But I was only trying to be nice." Karen sips at her coffee.

No longer needing to beat around the bush, I jump. "Why didn't you tell me about Keith, and Sydney?" Karen is quiet for a while. "I never thought I would need to."

I laugh. "Nonsense. You thought you could outrun him. Marry Sydney to me before he could make his move." My mother swings her body around. "That is not true. I didn't think Keith would stay in Cape Town longer than he should. I never planned for him to see Sydney.

If anything, I wanted him far away from her! I worked too hard for you and Sydney to find each other for Keith to turn it back to dust."

I look at her. "You worked hard?" Her chest heaves as her eyes divert to the ground. "Answer this Karen," I say. "Why, would you deliberately want to wed Sydney to me when you know very well that Keith is in love with her?"

My mother's eyes don't move. "You raised that boy more than you have ever raised me. And still, you found it in you to do that."

My anger begins to slowly swallow itself, replaced by sadness, regret. "I wish you had told me about it before I let Sydney go to Seattle alone. What am I saying?"

I chuckle, my cheeks and eyes feeling hot. "You've never thought of anyone but yourself! If you had supported and taken the time to know me when I was still a child, you'd know that this is not the life I wanted!"

Tears fall from my left eye. "I don't know you. All I know of you is the bad side of you. I have nothing good to say about you."

Karen steps closer towards me. "Don't." I hiss as tears continue to trickle down my warm cheeks. "Don't care now."

I take big steps out of the kitchen. I let myself be vulnerable, but I've been angry now for too long. All I hope for now, is that Sydney does nothing she'll regret.

"Nia." I call from the intercom in my office. "Sir?" "Please call Elizabeth to my office." "Yes sir."

I lay back into my seat. I don't really have any energy. I'm worried. And its lost me my appetite. A knock sounds at my door. "Come in."

Elizabeth walks into the office with a neutral expression. Her red bottoms click against the tiles. "Andre." She says before she takes a seat across from me.

"Seems like you've got a lot on your mind." She adds. I sigh. "I'm not sure if our plan needs to take place anymore." Elizabeth's eyes slightly widen before they look out through the window behind me.

She stands up and walks towards it. "Why? If I may ask." I turn around and take a breath before telling her about Keith and he's undying love for Sydney.

At first, Elizabeth laughs thinking it can't be true. "I wondered why Keith's attention would suddenly drift to Sydney if ever they were in the same room together."

She takes a seat on the couch. "So, what? You think Keith is going to be able to persuade her to get into his bed?"

I give her an obvious look. "You're making this about Sydney when its not Andre. Our plan is not for her. Its for us." Elizabeth reminds me. "Whether Sydney remains faithful or not, should not affect this plan. You will deal with that.
