After I shut myself in my room, I stayed in it for the majority of two weeks. The only time I went out was when Michael would ask me to take a walk around the gardens during the day or go to the library to read a random book to him and even the girls sometimes. I avoided Lady Dimitrescu like the plague and she knew it.

"Mama, why do you look like shit?" Michael asked out of the blue after he'd walked in the room. I choked on the water I had been sipping.

"Boy, you'd better watch that language when you talk to me. I'm letting you hang around Dani way too much." I reprimanded in a lighthearted tone, making him let out his signature giggle. "And to answer your question, I'm kind of missing one of my arms."

Michael snorted and climbed onto the bed. "But mama, you've always been missing one of your arms."

I actually laughed at that and gave him a gift from the Tickle Monster until he relented.

He squealed, "Okay! Okay! Mama I-I'm sorry! Stoooopp!!"

"Promise me you'll watch how you talk to me from now on."

Michael squeezed his eyes shut as he continued laughing uncontrollably. "O-okay! I promise!"

I stopped tickling him and pulled him into my lap, hugging him while we both continued giggling. Once we calmed down, I set the boy next to me and talked with him about his classes with his teacher from the village. Apparently, he bit her on his third day because she touched his shoulder unexpectedly. I couldn't help but chuckle at that, but aside from it, he was doing pretty well so far.

Later that night, he laid in the bed with me as I finished reading to him his favorite story.

"She says nothing at all, but simply stares upward into the dark sky and watches, with sad eyes, the slow dance of the infinite stars." I said, closing the book and putting it on the bedside table. Michael yawned before looking up at me with doe-like eyes. "I'm proud of you, bubba. You know that, right?"

"Yes, mama. You tell me every day." He said and cuddled into me, falling asleep almost instantly. I kissed the crown of his head.

"And I always will, bubba."

Once the morning came, I awoke to an empty bed as expected. Michael had his breakfast and lessons earlier in the day and was always retrieved by Cassandra and Daniela.

No, instead I woke up to something, or rather someone, that I really didn't want to see. Golden eyes looked down at me with disappointment while a steady frown settled on her flawless features.

"Why are you not in the dining room eating breakfast, pet?" Her annoyed voice rang out, making me flinch a little.

I sighed and glared at her, refusing to answer anything. Her nostrils flared and her eyes turned to pins.

"You cannot possibly still be on about your arm being taken away?" She growled out.

I shrugged and pulled the comforter over my head, ready to ignore her until she left. However, that plan shot through the window when the mattress itself was tilted until I slid off and faceplanted the floor. I howled in anger and shot up from the floor ready to throw hand(s), but was stopped when a large hand clutched the collar of my shirt and lifted me up.

Lady Dimitrescu raised me until I was to her level and red eyes once again met mine. I glared at her while I gripped her wrist to keep myself from choking. "When I ask you a question, I expect an answer back, daywalker."

I huffed in defiance. "Oh? I don't remember that being one of your rules, Lady Dimitrescu."

"Oh, you unbridled, entitled brat!" She snarled and slammed me on the top of the desk that sat off to the side of the bed. She leaned over me to the point where her face hovered only inches from mine. Gods, all I wanted more than anything was to kiss her, but that might never happen now. "This is my castle and you will follow whatever rules I decide to come up with. Or else..."
