"Y/n..." Jimmy hesitated as Y/n pulled the car into park.
"So here's what I'm thinking... I think Darcy's radio signal idea could have worked if we just approached it from a different angle. If there is some way we can get a signal to reach the radio in the car she was cuffed to, then maybe-" She started, quickly rushing from the car.
The darkness that had so anxiously been waiting to make its appearance had finally come from behind the shadows, suffocating everything and everyone in its wake. Making it harder and harder to breathe with each passing minute.
Hayward had officially lost his mind, SWORD had cracked down on... well, everything and Darcy had been sucked into the Westview anomaly, all when the hex expanded the previous night. While Hayward was busy flying off the rail, Monica Rambeau, Jimmy Woo, and Y/n L/n were able to set up their own base eight miles outside of the hex, with some much-needed help from Major Goodner and the rest of Monica's connections. All they needed now was to get their friend back.
"Y/n, she's going in." Jimmy interrupted, stopping dead in his tracks as the words left his mouth.
Y/n chuckled at what she thought was a joke until she turned to meet her friend's worried expression.
"The hell she is!" She snapped, unintentionally yelling at Jimmy which caused a few heads to turn in their direction.
Her breath quickened as she threw her bag onto the ground, running over to the small group that sat huddled underneath the tent. Jimmy pulled his jacket further onto his shoulders as he caught up with Y/n, both agents now watching as another team unloaded items from a truck several feet ahead of them. Y/n's eyes darted to what seemed to be a massive space rover now being rolled out of the truck.
"She's not..." Y/n stared in disbelief, almost unable to move, hoping her growing suspicions would turn out to be false.
From behind the rover walked Monica, pulling on a pair of gloves and locking them in place with the rest of the suit she was wearing.
"SHE'S NOT!" She cracked, sprinting towards the girl with Jimmy following close behind.
Monica shot her head around to Y/n whose voice could be heard all around the base.
"Are you fucking insane!?" Y/n stomped through the grass, waving her arms in the air at the girl that now stood in front of her. Jimmy huffed as he caught up with the two, placing his hand on his knee for support as he caught his breath.
"Y/n, someone needs to go in there..." Monica sighed, turning her head back to the red barrier that stood around the poisoned town.
"Absolutely someone needs to go in there, but it's not going to be you. Were you not listening to anything Darcy said? The energy inside the hex has rewritten your cells twice. Going back a third time..."
"You have been in there just as many times as me, Y/n. Someone needs to do it." She returned, pulling her helmet onto her head and clicking it in place.
"You're not going back in there! Let me go-" She began but was abruptly cut short as a pair of hands wrapped around her arms.
"What the-" she jolted back, "what the hell?" She looked back to Monica who just sighed and turned towards the rover.
"I'm sorry," Monica mumbled underneath her helmet, lifting herself up the ladder and into the space vehicle.
"NO! MONICA! LET ME GO!" It was no use, her arms didn't budge as she tried to escape the guard's tight hold. She twisted her head to Jimmy, who only looked down out of his own guilty conscience.
Y/n had torn the grass away from the ground beneath her, the dirt being kicked around as she tried everything to slip from her held position. Her eyes were wide and her desperate yelling continued as Monica began driving towards the hex.
The rover collided with the wall, sending a loud echoing crash through the air. Y/n flipped back to Jimmy who's panic quickly began showing on his face.
"What happened to 'sailing right through?'" Jimmy turned to Major Goodner.
"The density is matching her," she replied, looking down at the control panel that sat in front of her.
"The structural integrity is failing. It's disintegrating." She continued frantically.
"No, it's being rewritten-" Jimmy started when he was interrupted by the girl being held next to him.
"MONICA GET OUT OF THERE!" Y/n yelled, nailing the guard in the stomach to allow her quick escape.
Y/n picked up her feet as fast as they could go, sprinting towards the rover as it was quickly being dragged into the wall.
"Y/n! Monica, you need to get out of there!" Jimmy yelled, watching as Y/n desperately pulled open the hatch to the rover.
"Monica!" Y/n's voice cracked as she reached her arm in Monica's direction.
Monica gasped, breaking from the last belt that held her in place before locking her hand with Y/n's.
At the contact, Y/n tightened her grip and pulled Monica from the inside, sending them both to the ground.
Just as the two hit the ground, the rover was shot back from the wall, crashing to the grass as it held its new form. Half old truck, half armored space rover.
As the ringing in Y/n's ears slowly faded, she was able to pull herself and Monica from the floor, her knees buckling at the movement.
She lifted her head to see Monica looking back towards the hex, her heart-stopping as Monica took a deep breath and let her helmet fall to the side. She was going to try again.
She couldn't risk losing one more person in her life, she wouldn't survive.
No.
Y/n pushed Monica back to the ground, her heart pounding against her chest as she ran towards the hex. With one swift inhale, she pushed her hands against the wall, energy fragments immediately breaking off to pull her in.
This is gonna hurt.
