"It is the South Island city's second tremor in six months, and the country's worst natural disaster in 80 years"
Life is filled with natural disasters which cause hundreds of deaths.
Sometimes i don't actually realise how lucky i am that i do not live in an earthquake zone or near a volcano.
The only trauma i have been through is the power going in the middle of the night and the alarm waking me from my sleep.
So, The city of ChristChurch in New Zealand suffered a horrendous earthquake on Tuesday lunchtime. It has already claimed 65 lives and they fear that number will rise.
More than 100 people are feared trapped under collapsed buildings. Some people have to suffer a night trapped under a building hearing screams from various areas...
I hope if your reading this you will spare a minute to think about the people in New Zealand...i sure am.
Facts :
The quake caused some 30 million tonnes of ice to shear away from New Zealand's biggest glacier.
The damage is thought to be far worse than after the 7.1-magnitude quake on 4 September, which left two people seriously injured but no fatalities.
New Zealand experiences more than 14,000 earthquakes a year, of which only around 20 have a magnitude in excess of 5.0
The last fatal earthquake was in 1968, when a 7.1-magnitude tremor killed three people on the South Island's western coast.
Tuesday's was the country's worst natural disaster since a 1931 quake in Hawke's Bay on the North Island killed 256 people.
............
See what i'm saying... so, please spare a moment.
Think about them.
