"Want to get ice cream with me before you go home?" I asked Dan while I looked over the open grounds of the school. Teachers, students, parents and visitors walked around in the distance. The area we're in right now was empty except for the two of us. It was quiet, only the white noise created by the hectic town that sat far ahead of us.
Dan and I usually go out during weekends. We go shopping, play at the arcade, watch at the cinemas or relax at my house by the pool. I make sure I have nothing to do on the weekends so I can spend it with Dan. I always try to take him out of his house whenever I can so that pathetic bastard can't hurt him.
"Sure," Dan answered with a smirk. He knew what I was doing. I started spending my weekends with him ever since that night. He knows, but he never stopped going with me. I think he likes it. That's great. I took a deep sigh, taking in the smell of grass along with a hint of Dan's perfume. It wasn't too strong, you can pick it up only when you're this close to him.
He always did smell good. I stared off into the baby blue sky and zoned out. Everything was alright. I'm going to get Dan out of there soon. I usually get the things I want and I'm going to make sure I get this one. I'm not going to stop until I do.
"Didn't know it was going to be foggy today," Dan said. What he said brought my attention back to my surroundings. Foggy? The weather report didn't say anything like that. The whole day was going to be clear and sunny. And we don't have that kind of weather here. We never do.
I turned to Dan and saw that he was looking in the distance. I followed the direction he's facing to see for myself. There it was. Fog coming towards the town. It looked hypnotizing, slowly flowing out from the forest and into the active town that never rested. I've never seen fog in person before so seeing one right now fascinated and confused me at the same time.
I stood up from my seat and took a few steps forward, away from Dan who was still sitting down.
I scoured the view ahead, noticing that other people in the open grounds stopped what they were doing and observed the fog that's coming closer. It didn't speed up or slow down, it kept on going at the same speed. It was so high up too, swallowing even the tallest of buildings that stood in the core of the town. I heard something crash in the distance, somewhere in the town.
A loud and continuous horn that probably came from a vehicle pierced the air, even reaching this far. An accident already happened huh. I hope they're okay. I guess an ambulance would take some time before they got there with this weather. The fog looked really thick, I couldn't see the buildings clearly anymore. Their shadows stood tall and contrasted the pearl white fog.
I heard another sound, followed by another. And another. It kept on going. Screams from people in the town as it was now fully covered by the fog. What was going on? A strange feeling started to stir deep within me. It was uncomfortable, it made my heart beat go faster each second as the fog nears to where I am. I could no longer see the town, only the snow-colored wall that continued to go closer. It easily went over the walls of the school and enveloped each building as it finally reached me.
It loomed over me and flowed past my body like a slow but gigantic wave of water. My skin suddenly felt cold, my arms instinctively hugging my body for warmth. I looked around me and saw nothing but white. The fog was thick, I could only see a few feet around me and nothing but more. I felt disoriented, not wanting to move from my spot because I can easily get lost. Everything looks the same.
