"How did you find me?"

You didn't need an answer, not really. You knew one of his siblings had probably squealed, would have put good money on it being Rebekah. Elijah wouldn't have done that to you, not when he had begged you to stay, not when you had explained why you had to leave, not when he had kissed your forehead and told you that whatever happened, he would be there for you.

Well, at least one of the Mikaelson brothers was good at keeping promises. It certainly wasn't the one standing in front of you.

Klaus Mikaelson. Even thinking the name broke your heart, but it was nothing compared to the pain you felt as you looked at him now, the agony as you were reminded of just what he had done, of how he had ruined everything.

He had promised to always be true, to always love you, had said so in his wedding vows. But he had broken that promise, torn it apart when he jumped into bed with Hayley Marshall. The werewolf who was now pregnant with his child.

Of course, you had found out just as you realised that you had your own miracle growing inside of you. You were pregnant with Klaus's child too, and had looked forward to telling him that you were going to be a family. Terrified, of course, but excited, couldn't wait to see the look on his face.

And then you started to hear the rumours that a werewolf was pregnant with Klaus Mikaelson's child, and all it took was a look from Elijah to confirm the rumours. "For what it's worth, Y/N, I'd rather it be you."

"But it is me too." You remembered how Elijah had looked at you in shock, pulling you into his arms as you cried, heartbroken, shattered, scared. "I have to go."

So you had left with your unborn child, prepared to raise this baby on your own, not wanting Klaus to find out. He didn't deserve to know, not after what he had done to you, to both of you, to the beautiful family you had made.

It was a mess.

But now he was here, and he had found you, and one glance at your stomach told you that he knew all about the child that you were carrying.

"Does that really matter? Y/N, love, we need to talk."

"Fine, I'll talk. Go away."

"Y/N. Please." You could hear the hurt in voice, see the regret in his eyes. But as much as you wanted to forgive him, as much as you wanted to run into his arms and kiss him, all you could see was him with her. Sharing his bed with a woman who wasn't you. A woman who was now carrying your child's sibling.

You didn't say anything, just glared at Klaus, knowing that he would continue regardless of what you said. He was Klaus; he was stubborn and indignant and he would do anything for his family. It was what you loved about him, one of the reasons you had said I do all those years ago, one of the reasons you had been so excited about becoming to the mother to his child.

Well, now, you would be the mother to your child.

Klaus took your silence as opportunity, and, as you had expected, he tried to explain, no doubt trying to remember a rehearsed speech.

"Y/N. I get it, okay? I get that you're angry with me and you have every right to be. It was a mistake, and I'm so, so sorry. And yes, she's having my child, but so are you. And I love you." He looked at you with hope in eyes, desperation pooling in his irises and you felt your heart break yet again.

"They're just words Klaus."

And then something in him snapped, something that was much more like the Klaus Mikaelson you had fallen in him, his rage fuelling his desire to fight for you. "Well then what do you want me to say? Or maybe you want me to do something?" There was agony in his words, anger and frustration, his arms flailing as if he were reaching for the answers, for the way to fix everything. "I can't change it, Y/N. Hayley is having my baby, and so are you. You are my wife, and you need to come home." He stopped, his tenderness showing, the vulnerability that he only revealed around you. "Just please come home."

You thought about it for a moment. You looked at Klaus, at the perfect man who had created such a mess. A mess which two beautiful things were going to be the result of. Children. New life. New Mikaelsons.

Klaus deserved the chance to be a father, you had always thought that. And now he was getting the chance twice over. He would get his chance with your child, you decided, not having the courage to be that harsh.

"Okay, I'll come home. But-" you were quick to diminish his look of love, quick to kill any assumptions about everything being okay, -"I'm only doing this for the baby, not for us. I can't forgive you, Klaus. At least, not yet."

Klaus looked at the ground. "I understand."

It would take time for things to go back to the way they were, if they even did at all. But, you didn't mind, not when nine months later, you looked down at the face of yours and Klaus's child.

The child was born into a mess of a family, but you would make sure it was beautiful all the same.
