Mrs Doherty finally walked in.

"Oh goodness! You scared me! When did you lot come in here? I could have sworn you weren't here when I was in here a minute ago!"

"Oh. How peculiar - we've been here all along!" Daisy answered smoothly.

Mrs Doherty sighed. "I must be losing the plot. Anyway, what was it that you wanted to tell me?"

"You might wanna sit down for this." Warned Alexander, pulling out a chair for the housekeeper.

As usual, I explained everything. When I'd finished, Mrs Doherty was silent for a few seconds.

"So, let me just confirm. My nephews... partner is a- a... spy?"

I nodded gravely. "But you mustn't tell anyone. Anyone at all."

"Alright. I won't."

"So, you may not approve of 'Nancy' that much, but she'll have to stay with Francis so as to find information out about this 'buttons' person." Said Alexander.

"Alright. Thank you everyone. I really mean it!"

"It was no problem." I beamed. "We're always happy to help."

She left the room, still looking rather flabbergasted. We all looked at each other, and burst out laughing.

"Another, 'case thing' solved!" cheered George.

"Oh! I need to write it down!" I remembered.

"Do that later, Hazel! Its the Summer Holidays for goodness sake - lets go and do something... normal! Who's up for game of hide and seek?" Alexander suggested.

"Honestly, I am far too old to play such childish games! I am a lady!" said Daisy haughtily.

I raised my eyebrows at her, and she grinned. "Oh alright then. I'll do it for you, Hazel. I'll count first!"

We played inside and out until lunch, by which time we were exhausted and utterly ravenous. We all gobbled up dozens of sandwiches and cakes, and then sat outside in the sun. I copied down the letter into the case book and explained how we solved the case, as Alexander lay next to me. I finished, and put the book down with a contented sigh. Then, I sat back and watched George and Daisy climb a tree across the garden. Talk about being a lady! I thought to myself, and leant against the tree trunk behind us.

"You okay?" Alexander sat next to me, and put his arm around me.

I nodded and smiled at him. "I wonder what we're all going to do this Summer now that there is no more detecting!"

He chuckled. "We'll think of something"

He pulled me close, and I rested my head on his shoulder.

"What do you want for your birthday?" he asked after a while.

"I don't mind. Spending it with you is all I need." I said. It sounded awfully romantic in my head, but it sounded stupid out loud.

Alexander laughed again, and kissed me on the cheek. My face turned an even deeper red and I tensed up with surprise. I knew he'd think he did something wrong, so I hugged him a little tighter.
