"I'm alright. Really" Christine insisted to the boutique owner and thanked her sales associate for the water.
It was early evening and she'd gone off alone to do a little shopping which had started off so well, but half way through trying on clothes this wave of queasy exhaustion took hold and now she lay resting on the couch centered in this beautiful, understated store in the heart of Malaga.
It was just so much hotter here than a girl used to four seasons could imagine. And the smells while incredible, were overwhelming. She needed a moment to stop her head swimming, though the slightly metallic taste of the water wasn't helping.
None of this mattered, she insisted to herself. She only had two days before the fight would reclaim her life. Not only was Zemo closing in on this lead, but the Flag Smashers symbol had been seen in New York. The dreamy reality of Spain would soon be nothing but a sweet memory. She would not give in to feeling like shit when there was still some fun to be had.
Feeling slightly revived, Christine got up and went to stand at the mirror, taking in the sight of herself in this gorgeous summer pants suit.
"The bright white looks absolutely brilliant on your skin." The owner said with her thick accent. She ran her hand up Christine's arm covered by the thin, impeccably made cotton."Just be careful while you're eating. And maybe pack an extra tampon!" She whispered and winked.
The shop girl stifled a giggle and Christine gave a shy smile looking in the mirror. She would wear her white lace bralette under the blazer and nothing else, just to drive him mad. With a smile she ran her hands over her hips in the flowing pants and sighed. Hopefully she would be feeling well enough...
"I get the same way around my time," The owner went on as she tugged the hem of the jacket and smoothed the back seam "You should have something salty to eat, would you like us to bring a small plate out for you?"
God, the life of the rich... still the thought of food made her stomach lurch. "No thank you, I'm sure I just need to drink more water. Too much champagne." She tried to smile.
The woman paused, gave her a funny, somewhat doubtful look, and rubbed her shoulders in the reassuring way a mother would. "You will be the envy of the ocean, all eyes will be on you tonight." She thought it best to change the subject.
Christine nearly blushed. She did look amazing, there was no lie in that, but maybe white wasn't the best idea for an understated dinner? And then she laughed to herself knowing Helmut had no concept of the word. His tastes were about as understated as you'd expect from a Baron who wore a fur collared coat and purple mask.
"I'll take it." She said happily to their reflections in the mirror.
"Wonderful, I'll have Eva wrap it up for you."
With a nod, Christine went back into the fitting room and started to take the outfit off.
"So are you enjoying your time here?" The girl, Eva asked. She was waiting on Christine to hand her the clothes.
"I am." She answered and quickly stripped down.
"Vacation?"
"Yep. My first time! My— boyfriend?" Now that was a funny one. "Has been here before, he said he spent a lot of time here as a kid. Its absolutely magical"
"It is, we're happy to have you!"
"Is it always so hot? Dumb question I know, I'm in the south of Spain."
Eva laughed as Christine opened the door and handed her the suit. "I can ask Lucia to turn the air on a little higher for you if you'll be trying on more things?"
