"Hello, Carson. How are you doing today?" the therapist, Dr. Myers asks, smiling up at Carson.

She was a petite woman, with red hair, big brown eyes, and a kind aura. She had been having sessions with Carson since February, delving into her many issues. Did this mean Carson trusted her? Considering her track record with counselors, she did not. At all.

"I'm alright," she frowns, adjusting her dress.

"You look nice, something special planned for today?"

"My boyfriend's birthday."

"Ah, so tell me about this boyfriend. We haven't had a chance to talk about him yet."

"Can't we talk about something else, like my abandonment issues or deceased brother?" she groans.

"Oh, and here I thought you hated talking about them."

"I just don't think there's anything you could tell me about my relationship that I don't already know," she sighs.

"Try me. How long have you been together?"

"That's a complicated answer. But I guess about two months?"

"Mhm. And why is it complicated, exactly?"

"Because we kind of went on a break, well we broke up, but there were circumstances in which the break up occured, so-"

"Mhm. Did he break up with you, or the other way around?"

"I broke up with him."

"Why?"

"Kyle died. I wanted to be alone."

"Why? It's perfectly normal to form a support system after such a traumatic experience, so why?"

"Because I deal with things alone. I like it that way."

"Sure you do. You wanna know what I think?"

"No, but you're gonna tell me anyway."

"I think you were scared of losing control. A pattern I've noticed with you is that when you lose control of things, you panic. You run."

"Pardon?" she raises an eyebrow, not liking where this conversation was going.

"When you drowned, you pushed your friends away. When you lost your brother, you pushed your boyfriend away. When your best friend died, you left town, and pushed... everyone away. Pattern."

"I don't think that constitutes as a pattern but okay."

"You had no control in any of those situations. You're a title winning swimmer who drowned in a high school pool, because she lost control of the situation with a boy she liked. You couldn't control the people coming in and out of your life, and by breaking up with this other boy, Stiles? You got that control back. You left before he could leave you."
