The door shut behind me.
Silence flooded into the room.
I looked around. Hotel room my ass. The "room" was more of an apartment. I was standing in a living room/kitchen. To the left were two doorways, to what I assume were a bedroom and bathroom.
Deciding to sit on the couch for a moment, I turned to cross the room, only to trip over my own suitcase.
Picking myself up off the floor, I heard a bell ding. Looking around the room, I saw that a television on an extravagant entertainment system had turned on, and a cheery blonde woman appeared on screen.
"Heeeeeello, contestants!" she cheered. "You have taken the first steps to finding your soulmate! In a few short moments one of our very talented match-makers will be arriving to your room. They will be conducting an interview to see how each and every one of you little darlings stack up."
I made my way in front of the television.
"Now, if you haven't noticed yet, the moment your rooms front door closed, it locked."
I glanced at the door in surprise, having not noticed.
"The door will remain locked at all times. When you are required for events and tasks, you will be retrieved and prepped by your representative. You will be assigned a representative after your initial meeting with the match-makers! Oh, and before I forget," the blonde woman got close, "Before you worry about meals, I promise we won't starve you little darlings! There is a menu in the folder below the entertainment system you're watching this on! Just use the number written on the menu to text your order to, whenever you want, however many times a day you want!"
I realized I hadn't eaten that morning in my anticipation.
"And just so you're aware, we are watching you right now!"
My blood ran cold.
"As was stated in the contracts you little darlings signed, you consented to being filmed at all times, regardless of what you're doing! There's multiple cameras in every room, so make sure if you decide to be naughty you make it spectacular!" She winked mischievously. "That's all for me, my little darlings! Good luck and here's to your future!"
With that, the screen went dark.
I heard a chime at the front door. Turning to look, it opened and in walked a pleasant, motherly looking woman.
She had short, curly red hair and red horned glasses. She wore pearls with a white blouse and black jeans. A large, silver, heart shaped bag hung from her shoulder. There was a pink cherub pin on her collar.
"Hello Miss Miranda-Mae! My name is Nancy Goodly, may I sit here?" She motioned to the other end of the couch.
I stuttered out a yes as I nodded.
"Are you nervous, dear?" She patted my knee. "You seem so sweet! I saw your audition and read your emails. I want to help you, my dear."
I laughed nervously, "Are you sure you can?"
Nancy gave my a sympathetic look and reached for her heart bag.
"Are you ready for our interview, dear? Is there anything you want to prepare? Did your lawyer give you notes?" She inquired, pulling out a pink binder.
"Um, I don't have a lawyer. Do I...do I need one?" I asked, remembering Roger telling me I didn't need one weeks ago in the café.
Nancy's pleasant face betrayed her for a moment, concerned only for a split second.
