After we explained to mom what happened with our car we walked for miles in the dark and eventually fell asleep together in a ditch. I woke up to the hot beaming sun blasting me in the eyes. I see dad and Jack packing their bags back up from eating a snack. I grabbed my bag off my shoulders and grabbed a granola bar. They both looked at me and said morning. I waved back at them and looked for mom. She was still sleeping. I was scared if she was even alive. I walked over to her and felt her pulse. She was alive. I gave off a smile and got back up from my kneeling position to walk over to dad.
"So... what's the plan?" I ask him.
"I don't exactly know, we'll walk a few more miles and hopefully see if we can hitchhike". He replied.
"Where are we even going?" I asked.
"To your uncles place, he lives in the country so hopefully we'll be fine from these things". He answered giving air quotes around "things". I put my backpack back on my back and see dad picking up mom. We walked for hours and no sign of any civilization or cars. We saw a couple space crafts but when we did we hid in the bushes. After a while dad got tired of carrying mom so a Jack took her. She still was out cold. I wonder why. I know she has a fever but she's been sleeping for almost an entire day. Another 2 days past and we were still walking for miles. Mom still never woke up. But she had a pulse. Maybe her eyes turning purple had something to do with it. Maybe she was in a coma? We were close to running out of food on our long walk. I checked my phone to see if there was any reception. Nothing. Of course there's going to be no fucking cell phone reception, were in the middle of nowhere! It was our 3rd day walking and we were all beyond exhausted of walking. The sun was setting and tonight was the only night there was a sunset. We stopped and walked into the field to sit down. We put our bags behind us and sat together watching the orange cotton candy clouds melt into the sky. I looked over at Jack and we gave each other a half lip smile. We held hands putting each other's heads together. Dad looked over at us and started crying. He was very emotional. Who wouldn't be? Telling you're daughter to brake the laws and walk with your family through a deserted wasteland. The sun had just set as we got back up and started walking some more. 5 minutes into the long walk we saw 2 lights coming towards us. The heat wave was burning out the lights. They came closer and closer. We saw it was a car. A car!! I smiled a big smile and waved like a crazy person but I didn't care! A real life person was coming to save us. The car came closer and eventually stopped relight beside us. It was our Uncle Tom!
"You folks need a ride?" He said with a smirk. We all became joyful for the first time in days. I got in the middle seat and dad got in the front seat. Jack and I were in the back with mom still asleep.
"So what's with Annie?" He asked my dad. Annie was moms name.
"We were driving down this road a couple days ago and this purple portal came outta nowhere and those space ship thingy majigees came out of the sky and her eyes turned purple". Dad replied.
"Right sweetie?" Dad confirmed with me.
"Yep". I agreed. We drive 3 hours to Toms house where we all carried mom in and our luggage. We placed mom on the couch. We were all exhausted and went to bed. I fell asleep in the guest room with Jack, dad slept in the bathtub with a mattress and Tom slept in his bed. After hitting the bed I fell into a deep sleep. I had a dream I woke up on a small antique bed on a small white platform. The white platform was in some alternate universe. I stood up and looked around me. I was in some park in a huge futuristic city. I saw a floating electronic billboard that said "Vote for Annie Sheaperd for Mayor 3094!". Was I in the future? I walked around the city. There were hovering futuristic cars parked beside building and in park ping lots. Half of the buildings required a passcode of some sort to enter. The sky was dark pink and rainy, but beautiful. The things that made me wonder the most was that my mother is going to run for mayor of some cooky futuristic city in 200 hundred years? After a while of exploring this new realm I went back to the white platform and on the bed. I woke back up to present day in my uncles spear bedroom. I notice Jacks gone. I get out of bed and walk downstairs to see my family eating breakfast. Mom is still sleeping. I ate some Cheerios and had a shower. I come downstairs to tell everyone my dream. Tom looked at me strangely.
"Jesse, guys come with me". He said in a hurry.
"What? I can't do this shit anymore". I whined.
"Wait Jesse, so anytime one of those purple portal, force field type things come into our atmosphere, your mothers eyes turn purple yes?" He asked.
"Yea..". I answered. He told us to follow him to his car. We drove 6 hours back to our city. We came up to the hill entering town and saw the sign completely torn apart and rusted. We drive down the hill and see building blown up, houses on fire, and dead bodies everywhere. My home town... torn to smithereens by dumb space people. A tear came down my eye. Every couple of seconds the car would bump over a dead body. I just told myself they were speed bumps to lessen my trauma. There it was our home city. Destroyed.
