Dad took me into the empty house we once knew and explained me to what was going on. Apparently the moon is a man made planet made by aliens to track us from only one planet away. And now they want to see what we have as a planet, our soils and nature. They want to take it for themselves since they used to have a democracy which made no sense to me. It was empty silence for a while.
"Where's mom? I asked with a frown.
"In our bedroom... resting, she has a fever". He said looking depressed as ever. I stand up and walk upstairs. The house has no lights on or power because of the aliens. I tip toe to their bedroom to see mom in bed with a thermometer beside her. She had grey hair and wrinkles everywhere. My eyes bulged. She's not this old, she looks like a 90 year old! She's only 50, why does she looks like this? I asked myself continuing to walk towards her.
"Mom?" I whisper. Her eyes opened slowly.
"Jess..." She said with a slow smile. We reach for each others hands.
"Mom what happened to you?" I ask.
"What do you mean sweetie?" She asks with a creaky voice.
"Your hair.. it's grey and you have wrinkles everywhere. You look like a grandmother!" I said trying not to sound rude.
"This fever really has me". She said with a chuckle looking up at the ceiling fan. Dad came into the room with a tear in his eye. At least he still looks the same.
"Cmon Guys, we should get moving. It's getting worse out there." He said looking out the window. The light coming from the window was the only light in the whole house. I helped dad move more boxes out to the car. We only essential things. I went into my room and looked at all of my old memory boxes and art from when I was little I grabbed my backpack and stuffed it with my most important, valued items. I was about to leave and I stopped at my door. I forgot my stuffed animal from when I was born. I grabbed it and kissed it on the head. I walked out checking my phone checking to see if any of them had been texting recently. Nothing. I tried not to think the worst out of the situation. I walked out of the house and got into the passengers seat with dad driving. My brother Jack was sitting beside mom in the back seat laying down with a blanket and the thermometer still in her hand. I said waved goodbye to the house probably never seeing it again. I looked in the rear view mirror and saw the space ships destroying buildings and the city. The moon was even bigger now and most purple around it. I'm guessing the purple stuff around the moon was a force shield. Because the navy was trying to bomb it and were unsuccessful. We drove out of the city. I wiped a tear sliding down my check holding my teddy bear in my arms with my phone between my legs. A few minutes in the drive my dad put on the radio to see if there was any news on the invasion. There was only static. I put my data on and went on my socials to see if there was any news or updates on there. All my friends had posted appreciation posts about their families and friends. The thing that hurt me most was I wasn't in any of the pictures. I guess I wasn't important to them even though I loved them like my sisters I never had. I continued scrolling and saw New York City had been completely demolished and unrecognizable. There were a couple cars on the road but not much. I put my phone away as dad put in a mix tape of all our favourite family songs. It was around 8pm when our gas was running low. We headed out of the city around 1pm. We pulled over to a small gas station half way from our destination. I wasn't very sure where we were going even. Dad got out of the car to fill up the car and pay. I sat in the car and looked around. I looked behind us to see if there was anything suspicious. Dad got back in the car and we drove away. Mom was fast asleep on sleep drugs and Nick (my brother) was looking out the window. It was getting late and I told dad I could drive since he drove for 7 hours straight. He got in the passenger seat and slept. A couple hours past and it was 2 in the morning. I saw a flash of purple light going across the sky. It looked like the northern lights. I drove a bit slower to try and get a good look at it. The suddenly a whole band or space cruisers flew out of it. It must've been a portal of some kind. Mom woke up and started screaming. It caught me off surprise which made me swerve the car all around the road. I looked back at her and saw her pupils were bright purple. I shook dad with my right arm and he woke up.
"What? WHAT IS IT?" He asked loudly in worry.
"Moms eyes are purple!" I yelled at him. He looked back. I could barely see anything from the purple light and dark night.
"Sweetie? What's going on?" He asked mom in terror. The purple light vanished and the space cruisers started shooting lasers at us on the road. I dodged all of them except one. One of the lasers shot through the engine and bursted our tire. I pulled over to the side of the road so we could all catch our breaths. I got out of the car and opened the hood of the car. Smoke came out from opening the hood. I saw a small frame by one of the car parts. I wasn't car savvy so I dint know the names of the car parts. We panicked and got out fo the car and took our luggage with us. Dad picked mom up in his arms. We ran into a bush and waited for the car to explode. We closed our eyes and ducted as the car burst into flames and rolled over from the impact of the explosion.
"Everyone ok?" My dad asked. My brother and I shook our heads and agreed. Mom eyes turned back to her usual hazel brown and woke up.
"What the hell happened?". She asked in shock if looking at our family car burning down to crisp.
