Our home city was destroyed. Buildings were slanted over, cars crushed. Even the sky was dark and cloudy. We drove down the hill and passed town town. A couple streets were blocked off by hills of banged up cars. I turned my head and saw a building slowly crash behind us in the distance. Smoke blew out of it. I saw two bodies fall out of of the building. I looked back in front of me.
"So where are you even taking us?" My dad asked.
"A friend of mine, he did medical testing of patients who had unique medical conditions. Don't worry though, he's real good with old people". Tom said. My dad gave him a quick death stare because Tom said mom was old.
"Maybe mom is connected to the purple portal and that's why her eyes turned purple". I explained feeling stupid.
"Yeah... maybe". Tom replied. We drove for another 10 minutes before we got to our location. It was a huge silver glass skyscraper with a strange logo on it. The logo had a circle and two small dots side by side inside of it. We parked and walked in with dad carrying mom. We got in through the sliding doors and saw the main hall. The place was huge! It looked refurnished and newly renovated. I was surprised it still looked this way even with the apocalyptic that happened the week earlier. We walked up the stairs following Tom. We walked upstairs to an elevator. We walked in and the building shook a little bit. We all looked scared.
"Don't worry, as long as they don't see us we're fine". Tom explained while looking at the hand gun in his pocket. We looked at each other and arrived to the 76th floor. There were a total of 100 stories in the building including a restaurant on the roof with a pool. {ding} the elevator doors opened. The floor we arrived to had huge glass containers filled with medical papers and uniforms. We walked down a dark hallway with blue led lights on the roof making it look futuristic. We got to a door with a passcode required to go inside. Tom brainstormed for a couple seconds and hit the buttons "4896" he typed. The room was like a lab and a surgery room. Dad placed mom on the bed while we all looked around. While Tom and dad were talking about medical stuff, Jack and I just talked about how much we missed our friends. He talked about how he missed his girlfriend. And we kinda made fun of her a little. But that didn't matter because she was probably dead and me and Jack needed to fix our relationship no matter what it took. I looked up at him.
"I love you bro". I said with a small smile.
"Love you too sis". He said back. We walked back over to dad and Tom still discussing things about mom.
"So what's the verdict?" I asked them both.
"Well we don't exactly know, how long as she been sleeping?" Tom asked me.
"About 72 hours". I said worried.
"Shit, That's a long time". He said.
"Ok, I'm going to give her a shot, the shot has a drug in it that helps the immune system get going and the blood running ok?" Tom said. We all nodded as Tom injected the needle in mom's arm. We all cringed at the sight.
"There, now give it a couple hours. There's an apartment complex upstairs, there's, tv, a kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms ok? Go nuts". Tom told us as he stood by mom. He gave us a key to our apartment, Jack, and I went to the apartment while dad went to the lobby to read more about the building and other things. Jack and I got in the elevator and clicked the 96th floor. We got to the lobby and looked for our apartment. We found it, apartment 678. We opened the door. The apartment was a big modern concept with a huge living room, kitchen and stairs to the bedrooms. And there was a nice balcony view of the water and bridge of both sides of the city. Jack unpacked his things in his room. I walked over to my room and opened the door. It had everything I needed. I walked in and set my backpack and suitcase onto the bed and check the place out. I walked over to the bathroom. I was looking all over and heard the shower curtain shuffle. I ran to the kitchen and grabbed a knife for backup. I tipped toed in the bathroom. I was prepared to kill. I opened the shower curtain fast. A man was duct taped together and sitting in the bathtub looking miserable.
"Oh my god!" I shouted. I got into the bathtub and took off all the duct tape.
"Are you ok?" I asked the man.
"Not really". He said hyperventilating. I rolled my eyes still untangling him.
"What the hell happened?" I ask.
"I was in here for an appointment when the invasion happened and and". He started stuttering.
"And and one of the aliens killed the others and duct taped me". He said.
"Whats your name?" I asked him.
"Alex". He said as I detangled him, I could see him for him. And he was kinda cute. He had a charming face, in good shape. He was a cutie. I showed him to my brother later. The rest of the night we spent in the building wasn't very exciting. Mom never woke up, but her pulse was still going. And my family restrained me from killing Tom after lying to us that mom would wake up in an hour. We all said goodnight after dinner. After tossing and turning from hideous nightmares of escaping class before the invasion came I went downstairs to get a drink and saw Alex getting some warm milk in the dark.
"Couldn't sleep too?" I asked him.
"Nope". He said looking at me while still microwaving his milk. He was so charming when he spoke. As I was getting a drink of water and took his warm milk out and tasted it still watching me get my water.
"Ow, damn it, burnt my lip". He said. I looked over and giggled. I grabbed some milk and poured some of it into his burning milk.
"Just so you do what you do". I said with a funny smirk. He agreed with a humming sound. As I was walking upstairs to go back to bed he asked me-
"Hey, I never got your name". He said with a sexy grin.
"Jessica, but people call me Jess". I answered.
"Well thank you Jessica for saving me and helping my milk". He said with a laugh.
"Your welcome". I said walking back to my bed. I fell back asleep only hoping for a friend out of this.
