"YOU absolute sad excuse for a human being, what do you mean you didn't do the practice sheets? We have a competition for fucking finals in less than a week and, if you weren't the ace of the team, I am pretty sure Jiheon would skin you alive and cook you like a fresh piggy on an open fire." That wasn't the reaction Jake was really expecting when he plopped his body like dead weight on the club's sofa, but he doesn't know what else to expect from his best friend at this point.
"Thanks, Jay, really appreciate your Best Bro Support," the brunette rolls his eyes, moving his body so that he was facing his friend normally, "and I know Jiheon will beat my ass with the periodic table cutout, I willingly came here, knowing the consequences, but I promise you I had a good reason. I was simply busy."
"Busy doing what?" Jay teased, plopping his legs on the slightly younger's back, "Re-reading all the school's newspaper stamps? Playing your stupid gacha games all night, which, mind you, are doing worse things to your wallet than a middle-aged man with a drinking problem and a free Friday night."
"Okay, for your information, the poems and cute doodles are literally the only interesting thing that the school's newspaper has. And second of all, no, I was doing my internship."
"Ah, your legendary internship at Kim Incorporated, how could I have forgotten." the blonde chuckles teasingly.
Sim Jake and Park Jay have been the best of friends for around two years now, having met on the first day of club gathering. The club was physics-based, which both males loved, so the bond was already strong from day one. Yes, they may not be the exact same personality-wise and they sure as hell don't have that many interests in common, but that didn't stop them from loving each other with their whole existence.
Both males were pretty awkward on their first day, having only known each other and having no idea how their new school would initiate their presence. And, in all honesty, their first day wasn't anything special, considering most of it was Jiheon, the president of the club, informing them in much detail about how the club works and how everything would be played out. Their underclassman was a strict lady when it came to persistence and getting them to work as a group, so, even if the two were mildly scared to their core, they quickly bonded with the rest of the club.
The boys were glued to the hip after the first day, having made the unspoken rule of being each other's anchors in a new and strange environment. Their 10th-grade experience was one for the books, but so blurry at the same time, but all Jake knows, he never regrets joining the club, especially because it got him a friend like Jay.
"That doesn't change the fact that you'll get absolutely beat," Jay whispered, moving his legs from Jake's back and walking over to the circular table where everyone else had already gathered.
Well, it's now or never. The logical answer is most likely 'never' because he already feels the sting of the periodic table hitting his back.
"So, team, we have the competition in less than a week and our meet-ups are still limited, so I assert we have a meetup on Thursday - the day before we leave for Busan - and work on the given test sheets Mr. Kwon gave us," Jiheon spoke in a soft voice, but somehow the brunette didn't catch any of that. He was a little too busy focusing on not seeming nervous and smoothing his palms over his pants in hopes of getting rid of the sweat. Maybe he could easily excuse himself and sit in the bathroom for an hour and a half, they'd probably finish the practice sheets and forget about his whole existence, he just has to-
"Sim! Did you hear me?" Jiheon's voice was no longer soft and smooth, it was roughly laced with annoyance, and that is never a good thing, especially if the annoyance is directed towards Jake.
