mother shim:
You have no idea how worried we were about you not getting into the next stage, how could you possibly doubt your strengths?
16:34If you're this nervous for the semi-finals, that just means you're not prepared enough. Stop slacking off.
16:35Jake's eyes reread the messages once, twice, thrice, and God knows how many more times but he couldn't even feel an ounce of pride or worry from his mother's text message.
His vision was a little glossy as he hoped to keep his tears at bay, not wanting for Jay to come in any minute and worry as to why his eyes are red. He never liked worrying his best friend, nor did he favour crying his eyes out.
He glanced back at his phone one more time, checking to see if he truly didn't miss a message from his mother.
With a heavy chest, he swallowed and tried controlling his breathing, placing his phone on his designated bed, rubbing his face to try and control the uneasy feeling settling in his heart.
It wasn't always like this.
Jake moved the curtains away from the windows and stared out at the city around the motel - it was a semi-quiet evening with a little drizzle of rain falling here and there, not doing anything good for his already discouraged heart.
She's just exhausted and overworked, just hang in there.
The brunette stared out of the window for a bit, biting back the unwanted tears as he tried to control his breathing.
His peace was soon disturbed by a sudden knock on the door, making him jump in fright from the unexpected noise.
He knew Jay wouldn't be coming back that quick and he sure as hell wouldn't knock on the door to his own room, so Jake opted to ignore the knock, not wanting to face anyone or anything in his fragile state.
The knocking stopped for a bit and Jake assumed the person had given up and left, but a faint voice was heard after the silence.
"Jakey?"
His heart beat faster, a new rush of emotion taking over his once pained soul.
Sunghoon.
The brunette closed the curtain, taking a hesitant step towards the door, debating whether to open the door to the raven or not. He did kind of want to see him after the match...
Maybe he would help.
Jake took a deep breath and opened the door a little bit, peeking through the ajar gap as if he was making sure that it really is Sunghoon and not someone else.
The raven leaned over a bit, peeking in himself with a small smile, being a little too close for it to be comfortable, "Hello there, is Jakey home?"
Jake blushed a little but opened the door fully, careful to not hit the taller.
"Did you want something?" Jake asked shyly, fidgeting with his fingers.
Sunghoon stared at the brunette for a bit, taking in the boy's slightly dishevelled appearance and nervous mannerism. His original plan was to come here and check up on him and hopefully leave with Jake's phone number.
The raven smiled and nodded, "Yeah, I was hoping to see how you're doing?"
Jake bit the inside of his cheek, clenching his jaw in hopes of the tears not brimming back in his eyes. He hated being so easily emotional.
"I'm okay," he answered curtly, looking down at the floor.
The two stood there awkwardly for a bit, Sunghoon a little lost for words, not knowing how to fill in the empty conversation.
