Waking up in a new place was always disorienting, but for Tyson, it was often painful as well. His body seemed to be used to his bed's familiarity, to the comfort, so anything else was never enough.
However, this time, when Tyson opened his eyes to the unfamiliar room, he realized he felt pretty good. He wasn't sure if it had something to do with the fact that the beds were very comfortable. Or that he was more exhausted than he ever was before entering the crazy world of time travel.
Looking around, Tyson realized that he hadn't paid enough attention to their room to know if anything was disturbed while they slept. Thus, he checked to see if Marcus was okay and when he noted his friend's loud snoring, he proceeded to check his pockets.
To his relief, the money in his pockets didn't magically disappear, no matter the fact that it did seem to have magically appeared in the first place.
Feeling slightly better about their situation, Tyson started looking around to familiarize himself with their surroundings should they need to escape.
The regular-looking brown door and the white curtains that were hanging from the two windows didn't tell him much about the place they chose as their temporary home. At least he hoped it was for a short time since he was pretty sure that they didn't have enough money for a prolonged stay.
"Chocolate...mmm..." Marcus mumbled in his sleep.
"Even while asleep, all he is thinking about is food. I wish I was more like him. All of my dreams were horrible nightmares about getting lost in time and place forever or causing the end of the world," Tyson mumbled under his breath.
Slightly jealous of his friend, Tyson continued to take stock of his surroundings.
The old-fashioned brown furniture seemed to have been chosen to match the door and other decorative objects in the room. It surprised Tyson to see the attention they paid to decor since some of the places he had stayed in didn't really care about little things like that.
Still, all the small things that fitted perfectly made the place feel homey. And Tyson knew that if he were on vacation, he would have loved it. As it was, he felt a wave of odd anger towards the furniture, towards the people who had the luxury of not knowing what the future held. He was angry at everyone.
"Tyson..." Marcus said sleepily a few moments later.
"What?" Tyson responded far harsher than he intended.
"Wow, someone sure got up on the wrong side of the bed," Marcus said, rubbing his eyes.
"Sorry, I was just thinking about our situation," Tyson said, trying to reign in his senseless anger.
After all, he wasn't angry at Marcus. He was furious at their situation, at the inability to truly fix anything. For some reason, the comfortable look of the room rubbed him the wrong way since it made it crystal clear how uncomfortable their situation was.
"Talking about our situation, I think we should talk about the future," Marcus said, sounding more serious than Tyson expected.
"Well, I was thinking that we can check out the place where the portal spat us out and see if it appeared by any chance. If not, we can consider our next step then," Tyson said, working out the steps in his head as he spoke.
"No, no, man. I was talking about the more immediate future," Marcus said with an oddly excited look in his eyes.
"Huh?" Tyson asked, trying to decipher what Marcus was talking about.
"Breakfast, of course," Marcus said with an enormous grin on his face.
Tyson loudly smacked his forehead with his hand in frustration. It appeared as if nothing mattered to Marcus besides food in his belly. Moreover, having in mind Tyson's already foul mood, he had to make an utmost effort not to tell Marcus what he thought about his selfishness.
