Benny hadn't been a wreck, but he certainly was not doing terribly. Of course- he had been keeping up chess, but he knew that couldn't last forever.

In the shower, he thought of her, while speaking to friends, only her, when he made breakfast, he chuckled and thought of her.

He never took any of her artwork down, and sometimes he would just sit down and stare at his walls, missing what could have been.

He took Thea's advice though, and he became strong. One day, as he sat on the bench he once found Thea homeless on, he stared out into the park.

A little blond boy the age of no more than 6 threw a ball with two of his other friends, one being another tall boy and a short little girl. One of the taller boys snatched the ball right out of the little girls hand, and she began to cry as the tall one ran away. Benny noticed as the blond boy searched not to comfort her but for something in his bag. He looked very dirty, instigating his parents didn't care much about his hygiene or didn't care much at all. Benny almost saw himself in him, and it made him almost so depressed he couldn't stand it. But then he saw the little blond boy pull out a wrapped piece of something, and he ran back over to the girl. He watched as the boy handed the piece of candy to the girl, and you should've seen her smile.

It took him awhile, but he understood what Thea meant, that is what he was supposed to live for. He wasn't supposed to live for a girl, but he was supposed to really be happy and with himself he now was.

It was a dusty morning a few years later that Benny was woken up to a knock on the door.

Sluggishly, Benny got out of bed. You could noticeably tell that his basement of an apartment was now just an apartment. He cleaned up, let as much light as possible in, and even bought a few plants.

Expecting to see someone, he quickly became ent to turn the knob, but he was pleasantly surprised with a package.

The package looked only about a foot big, but when Benny went to pick it up, he could tell there was a substantial gift. On top of the box was a letter attached to a package. It had a delicate gold foil and a print that read "to cowboy" followed by little handwritten stars.

Before opening the box, he found his knife and opened the letter, carefully managing not to ruin or tear the paper.

Benny felt a hitch in his throat as he read.

Dear Cowboy,

I have visited France, it's quite lovely for someone who was once so afraid of leaving the city once. I guess I can say I have gotten over my fear so silly.

Beth and I have become more than great friends, and we often speak on the phone, her often asking me whatever happened to Benny Watts, and how I was surprised to learn you hadn't kept in contact with her. She quite misses your arrogant presence, almost as much as I do.

She has started a school with her good friend Townes, well you know Townes. I always thought they would get together after the so many years they spent working in the school, but they love each other in a platonic sense, and I can tell Beth enjoys the independence that comes with it.

You might be surprised to hear that Beth has actually taken up a lover, my old friend Jolene. Turns out Jolene had a silly crush on me, and didn't realize her feelings for Beth until she had time to get over me. Yes, I seem arrogant, but I''m talking to an arrogance prince. Jolene and I are great friends now.

I still don't think any man, or woman could ever reach the standards that Elizabeth Harmon holds. Townes though, I could never understand the appeal- he would often rat me out to you wouldn't he? Jolene makes sense for her in a way. They balance each other.

Anyway, the school is one of recreation, but most children attend for this weird game that has been quite popular lately- Chess, I think it was called? Of course I'm teasing, you were some champion of Bridge if I remember correctly!

And as much as I try not to, I miss you. I can only reminisce of the countless nights I spent speaking to you, knowing every inch of you like the back of my hand, without even having sex with you. I often wonder if we would have been good at it. We probably would have.

I needed to wait Benny Watts, you must understand, I needed to make sure it was love. I had to make sure I was in love with you, I have never loved someone before. True, terrifying love.

And for if you still love me, or loved me at all in the first place, if you don't have a desperate need for me, or have an addiction to me, but you are so unconditionally and completely in love with me, and if it so happens that we find each other again, whenever or however that may be, Well- I wouldn't mind finding the beauty in you once more.

Sincerely yours,
Thea

After putting the letter down, he looked to open the package.

With a shaking Benny, he opened it, with a peaking of black leather poking through.
