Meeting someone as arrogant as Thea wasn't a possibility until she met Benny.
And there was no figuring out Benny Watts.

Update my grandma got me these sick old books from 1943 that she found in her attic?? I literally love that woman she knows the way to my heart.
Disclaimer:
I do not own the characters in the Queens Gambit, but if I did, I would have made an extremely terribly directed action movie. But with Benny and Beth as Harry Potter characters crossed with the grinch. Probably actually crossed too. Getting lit yo.
Song of the chapter: Vienna by Billy Joel (I recommend actually listening to the songs before or during the chapter bc they hella set the mood) ;))))))

Falling asleep in the middle of a hotel in a city you've never been to, the night before the biggest tournament in America that chess can offer- is not the brightest idea.
And obviously Thea did not use her head when passing out, because she woke up to the lovely sounds of people complaining about what types of people they let into the hotel.
Discombobulated, Thea arose from her position, by passers staring at her untidy hair and the paint stuck to her nicest clothes.
If only this day could get any better.
She caught a little boy dressed in shorts, plaid red and navy sweater matching his bow tie, red socks raising over his knees, glaring at Thea, most likely curious to why they had let the homeless sleep overnight in the middle of the hotel.
"What are you looking at kid? Scram if you know what's good for you!" Thea yelled, a little too loudly.
The boy's face turned as crimson, a similar shade to his socks, running away to his mothers safety, a few yards ahead.
She could not stress how annoying children were.
Collecting her things gave her a sense of dread as she realized what she promised herself she would do last night, and before she knew it, her mind had forgotten about the supplies, and she remembered where she needed to go.
