'til death do us part'

prologue

FIVE WORDS. Five words that flow off the tongue so easily when you are in love. Sól Oderin dreamed of the day she would get to say those words to the person she loved the most since she was a little girl. Her mother would tell her stories of the wedding of every little girl's dreams, a fairytale. That was the perks of marrying a King. Sól knew she would never marry someone with a higher status than her now, but that didn't change the dream of a beautiful white dress and a long veil to accompany her down a star-covered and hope-filled future.

But that was, and always will be, just a dream.

The sun was high as Sól dressed for a day of space travel. She was expected on Alderaan before her siblings and sister-in-law left with Senator Padmé Amidala of Naboo and Senator Bail Organa of Alderaan to present something to the Republic. Sól was clueless as to what it was, honestly, but she was there to support her family, her closest in arms.

Many things had happened in the Princess's upbringing that drew her closer and closer to the comfort of her family. Her entire life she had been tied to the hips of her older brothers, and she wouldn't have had it any other way. Thoran was their brute, Loris was their brain, and Sól was their reason. Without one of them, the trio was sure to collapse at any second. And when Loris's wife, Lyra, joined the family and took the role as the senator of Asgalvar, it was like it was meant to be.

Sòl tried to dress loosely, something comfortable enough to possibly rest on the ship as they traveled through space. She knew that the day, and possibly the next, was going to be long and completely out of her comfort zone. It was so rare that Sòl traveled just to travel, with most of her trips being to report back to her father and give him her advice on how to act. It was a role that was so very important to her, she was raised to advise her father, and after her oldest brother.

Something about the young Princess of Asgalvar was fairytale coated on the surface. How could you look at the young beauty and not envy the castle, the title, the crown? Sól Oderin was living the perfect life on the surface. . . But underneath was much different.

Her bones were pushed by power, a force and magic that was something her parents had always told her to repress- But only for her safety. If it wasn't for an arranged marriage created before birth (that fell through after the boy passed as a young child), Sól would've been put through Jedi training, taken from her parents without a second thought to serve the Republic, not her people.

But since then, there has been nothing left but an ache in her star-soaked bones, a slight burn, and a light throb. Power, hunger, a longing to just tap in and change the world around her-

"You're Royal Highness! Prince Thoran and Prince Loris request your presence!"

The voice was sharp, commanding. Orhen.

Their relationship had grown tense as of recently, shifting from close friends to an unrequited love story. But Sól was the one who held the heart she had to break. She cared so much for Orhen, he was one of her closest friends, but he loved her much more than a friend. Sól just didn't feel the same way.

"There's a Jedi waiting at the ship sent by the Republic." Orhen lacked any tone, his voice was as monotoned as his expression was blank.

"What? Why would the Republic sent a Jedi, this is a private trip?" Her confusion was evident as her brow furrowed.

"I was hoping you were going to tell me, Your Highness." Orhen was done talking. No banter or even eye contact, just silence and a long walk.

When the two finally made it out to the landing deck, the sun was shining brightly on Asgalvar, white and gold light was reflecting off of the castle and everything surrounding it. You could see the entire kingdom from that point. The villages and cities, all the squares and markets, it was complemented by the golden light of the sun. On the platform, there were hundreds of small ships and only a handful of larger ones, and in front of the closest one to the entrance, was Sól's brother's and her sister-in-law.

"Good afternoon, sister!" Thoran was as bright as his appearance, the heir-in-waiting was adorning the traditional Asgalvarian attire, with robes a deep red complimenting his silver armor. His smile was large and his features were glowing.

"Brothers', Lyra, good afternoon! Are we leaving now?" Sól tried to match her oldest brothers' energy.

"In a few minutes, sister. I would like to introduce you to the Jedi accompanying us to Alderaan, Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. His knight is waiting for us on Alderaan, Anakin Skywalker." Loris introduced the half-present duo, the Jedi master walking up to them from the top of the ships entrance.

He was the embodiment of yellow, a soft sunrise mixed with a warrior's spirit. He had a sandy aura that felt like a safety blanket, making you feel like he would lay down his life for yours.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was a great man, and an even greater Jedi. His life belonged to the people and safety of the Republic, but he loved his comrades deeply. It was his fatal flaw.

"Sól Oderin, I'm the Kings consultant and his representative, I'm also his youngest child. It's an honor, Master Kenobi," Sól gave him a sweet smile, her eyes squinting and lips wide.

"And you as well, your Royal Highness," Obi-wan returned her energy, his features soften and his blue eyes fully meeting hers'.
