With a one last groan, Appa lands in the courtyard of the royal beach house on Ember Island. His flying companions uncurled themselves from their cuddled position on his head. Aang is so excited to start his two-week vacation with his wife that he grabs Katara bridal style and jumps down with her in his arms. She giggles into his chest as she wraps her arm around his shoulders. When they reach the stone, Aang gently sets her on her feet, beaming down at her.
"Happy anniversary," Aang whispers to her stooping to lean his forehead against hers. It had been four amazing years of marriage to the woman he had loved since he was 12 years old. He wasted no time once he turned 16 to ask her to spend the rest of their lives together. Her saying yes was the only birthday present he had ever needed or wanted. After a year of planning their own special wedding for themselves as just Aang and Katara along with a very public wedding befitting of the world's Avatar, they had finally been joined as one before their family, friends, and world. Now, four years later both still could not believe how new everything still felt and wondered if the feeling of excitement every time they saw their soulmate would ever pass.
The beach house had changed since their time hiding here during the war. The outside wall that had been blown out by Aang when Zuko was "teaching him a lesson" was fixed along with the house being regularly cleaned and not so dusty. Furniture and decorations were updated with the new and changing times. Nothing reminiscent of the old war mongering Fire Lords were left. It was a beach house ready to be filled with happy memories again. Just what Aang and Katara had planned for the next two weeks, making happy memories.
Aang bent their belongings off Appa's saddle to be prepared to take to their guest bedroom. First, they wanted to take Appa to his stable so he could get some rest. Zuko wanted Aang and Katara to always feel welcome to stay at the royal residence on Ember Island so he had ordered the construction of an Appa-sized stable during the renovations. It was a beautiful wooden barn with a large comfy area for Appa to lay down on along with a specific spot for Aang to store Appa's saddle on the ground with a loft above to store hay. After bending the saddle off Appa, Aang jumped up to the hayloft stocked full of hay to bring some down for the bison. Out of his peripheral he noticed Katara was climbing the loft's ladder.
"Sweetie, you don't have to come up here! I am happy to take care of Appa myself. Plus, it's easy to airbend him the hay from right here. I only want you to relax on our anniversary getaway," Aang reassured her.
"This just looked like a comfy place to relax is all sweetie," Katara replied in a sweet and teasing voice while looking through her eyelashes up at him. The way she was looking at him was stirring in the lower regions of Aang. Katara had not been very in the mood for sex lately as she had come down with some sort of stomach bug a few weeks ago but she was better in time for their anniversary vacation. They figured their constant traveling and little sleep the past few months was wearing on her body. He reached out a hand to help her all the way up the ladder and into the loft.
"Sweetie, we just got here," he chuckled, "Not that I'm complaining!"
"I've just missed you and we have a few weeks to make up for," she said huskily wrapping her arms around his neck and smirking. Aang hummed in agreement wrapping his arms around her waist resting his forehead against hers.
