(A/n: this goes by a little fast, only becsuse slow burns are hard to write for me so deal with it lol.
Again, this is a stand along book, but takes place in the same universe as Blue Haired Idiot, only the timeline is before U.A. starts. So if are coming from BHI, then expect some camios lol.)
Nestled in the outskirts of the city, was a cafe. It was an extemely busy morning for a Friday, but that seemed normal for the employee's that worked there. Students and adults alike came there for their daily fix of coffee, muffins, and tea. It wasn't as popular as it seemed, as locals were the frequent customers with a few occasional travelers. But they didn't seem to mind. The Bean was open to all.
On this particular morning in March, was the last day of school until April. There were more students than adults on this day as they all wanted to get goodies for their friends before having to do final exams and say goodbye until the new school year started. One guy, however, didn't have to worry about any of that.
Akari was an extrodinary soul. Having graduated high school early when he was just 15, he had been working part-time at The Bean to save up for university when he turned 18. But being 22 and still not in college, he had a good amount saved up for a few semeaters worth of tuition whenever that may be. Although he was a prodigy and had been awarded scholarships that covers almost all of his tuition for how ever long he wanted to get a higher education, he thought it would be best to have his own money that he earned for emergencies.
Like today for instance.
Every friday at noon to close which was 9pm, was "Catday" Where employee's would bring their feline friends (if they have one ) to work with them to have a "cat cafe" theme day. But to Akari, this meant dragging Dr.Pickles to work with him. Don't get him wrong, Dr.Pickles was his best friend for many years, but he sure as hell is needy. He only ate top notch food that was expensive. And to Akari's annoyance, he had ran out of said food. So here he was at the pet store about a block from his work, having an argument with a chubby kitty.
"merow"
"No, Dr.Pickles. We aren't here to get groomed today." The white haired teen picked up a little basket from the entrance of the store. Dr.Pickles shuffled around, poking his head out of Akari's cat carrier backpack, seemingly having a temper tantrum. He obviously ignored the cat, walking quickly over to the cat food section. He was already running late to work, so he didn't have time to waste his time on a hungry chub chub.
"merow!"
"I don't care! We are here to get food because someone's fat ass likes to eat everything in two seconds. This is enough to last you one day. One.Day. You know I don't get paid until tomorrow so make this last, please." He put a few cans in the basket, and a small bag of cat treats because someone insisted.
Akari made his way to the cashier who greeted him and asked if he found everything okay, to which his companion wanted to complain that he wasn't happy with his visit, but the cashier didn't need to know that. Paying for the food, he grabbed the paper bag and hurried down the sidewalk to The Bean.
Once he walked in the front door, the bell dinged, signaling his arrival. A few regulars greeted him a good afternoon before going back to their beverages and cakes. He felt embarrased that he was late for the second time this week because of his cat.
The buildings light was dimmer than the 12 o'clock sun. His freckles glowed slightly in the change of light as he walked into the break room to set his carrier down. Dr.Pickles jumped out once he was put down, and rubbed his body on Akari's black work pants, purposfully getting cat hair everywhere that he rubbed. The teen rolled his eyes before getting a can of food out for the hungry bastard below him.
"There. Eat. Come out when you're done, you're favourite time of day is here. Getting attention."
He walked out of the room after putting his apron on and clocking in. His Uncle, which was his boss, was waiting for him by the registers. Luckily he only had one customer ordering to go, so he wouldn't be in too much trouble.
"You're late, Akari." His uncle looked at him with a stern look after he gave the customer their coffee.
"Blame the cat."
The man sighed"It's always the cat. Get to work, boy, you know Lunch hour on Cat Day is hectic. Especially this time of year. You're lucky your cousin didn't work this morning or you would've had to play catch up."
He shovered at the mention of his cousin. Poor soul couldn't bake worth nothing. But his Uncle was right. Some of the schools around this area let out early once the exams were finished, meaning all the students (and sometimes teachers)would come here for a snack and drinks.
And right on que, students in all typed of uniforms walked in and began to order.
