One second you're standing there, hearing the loud noises of the hospital that surrounds you, then you turn your gaze to the right, and the bustling sound of your surrounding becomes muted, and all you can focus on is the person walking towards you.
Call it fate, call it coincidence, but you have always known that it was inevitable. Living in the same city, it was only time the two of you would bump into each other. Whether on the street, in a restaurant, or a hospital lobby right here, right now.
It's really funny how the world works. Years ago, the man in front of you left and hurt you, only for fate to spit in your face and reunite the two of you again.
"Hana."
His voice brings back memories of all the times that you had tried to forget.
"Oppa." The word slips out of you like a reflex.
Chi Hyun's heart beats a skip on that nickname.
"It's been a while."
"Y-yes, it has." His eyes still have that effect on you, making you unable to move yours from his.
"How are you, Hana?"
"I've been good." Talking with him in Japanese feels too intimate. It feels like you're close friends who haven't talked in years, and after meeting each other again, it's like time hasn't passed in any way; but the truth is far from that.
"Your Korean is better, I see." He gives you a soft smile, reminded of those times he taught you the language.
All you give him is a nod. A few seconds of silence befalls the two of you. Him trying to find the words, and you are still processing the shock of meeting him. Then you remember, Tae Oh. He could come at any second and see the two of you.
Tae Oh does know about him, in a sense. He knows about an ex, but he doesn't know who he is or that he's even in the same country, let alone the same city.
"I-I have to go." You don't know if it's because you're uncomfortable or you don't want Tae Oh to see, but either way, you feel the need to leave.
But of course, he blocks your way; he's not letting you go again so easily.
"Then, can we meet up sometime? Get coffee? I just want to talk... and to apologize, please." Somewhere in your heart, you want that too, to talk to him again, and agreeing with him seems to be the fastest way for you to leave.
