Heo Chi Hyun and Hana Bushida met seven almost eight years ago in their old neighborhood park in the nighttime, a time of day where people are supposed to be comforted by the warmth of their homes, not by the chilly wind of early January.
Heo Chi Hyun was there because he needed space from his new home. His mother's new husband was trying too hard for Chi Hyun to like him, so he sought out to find some air and take a walk to familiarize himself with his new neighborhood. With a new country, a new father, and beginning college, he needs some alone time.
Hana Bushida, however, was there because she needed to escape the nightmare, which is her orphanage home. A few nights a week, she would sneak out and go to the small park in their neighborhood. Her favorite activity was swinging herself on one of the swings and trying to count the stars that littered the night sky. The area was in the outskirts, which is how they still got to see the stars, not covered by the city's pollution.
The night they met, that was precisely what she was doing.

Heo Chi Hyun is making his way back home when he sees a girl on one of the neighborhood park swings.
He can see her mouth moving, which confuses him for a while until he realizes that she's trying to count the stars. Intrigued, he slows down his pace, wanting to see the girl longer. But the peaceful silence is broken by the girl falling backward from the swing. She was trying to see the stars above her, but she miscalculated her position and leaned too far back.
Her sounds of pain make Chi Hyun run to her and helps her.
"Are you okay?"
She looks at him like he just grew two heads. He realizes that he just spoke to her in Korean. Chi Hyun, already pretty fluent in the Japanese language, asks her again in her mother language, to which she replies in a smooth Japanese accent, unlike his.
"I'm okay." She tries to take a step, which results in her falling sideways into his arms.
"Sit here," he instructs her to sit on the swing and proceeds to take a look at her right foot.
