How did it come to this?

He was tired, his throat hurt and he wasnt even sure if he was doing anything right at this point...
All he knew was that he needed to survive...he needed to find him.

Avocato was a ventraxian that had come to Earth around 5 years ago. He was young then, being 20 and yet a father of a small boy.
Just as any other good father, he was worried about his son.

The two had gotten separated during the apocalypse...The evacuation bus could only take one more and Avocato had begged them to take his son, promising that he'd make his way there on foot.

He needed to live.
How else could he see his little boy again?

Things weren't supposed to have gone like this...He was supposed to run away to Earth and finally get a good job to put food on the table for them both...
Yet...

"Why the fuck are there zombies everywhere?" He groaned loudly, catching the attention of the undead nearby.
The corpses began to move slowly towards him. Avocato took this chance to light up a cigarette, inhaling the intoxicating fumes before exhaling slowly.
Now that the zombies were getting closer, he pulled the gun from his back and cooked it, beginning to shoot their brains out.

He'd live...he'd survive to see his son again.

The sun was at the highest point in the sky, warming up his surroundings. It was midday and Avocato was growing hungry. Lucky for him, there was a town nearby.

He tied his work boots quickly before fixing his hat that protected him from the sun, ears popping out from the holes he tore with his knife. He heard that the humans called it a "cowboy" hat but Avocato was neither a cow nor a boy, he just used it because it gave him shade.

Walking forth towards the town, he didn't look back at the pile of dead undead corpses...making a mental note that he needed to find more ammo.

"Oh...a gas station" he noticed the lights not too far, deciding to make a small stop to get some water and food for himself.
Making his way in, he aimed his gun forth, ready to shoot at anything that might pop his way- but the place was quiet. He sniffed the air, relaxing as his nose didn't pick the scent of rotting flesh.

He removed his bag and began to pack some water and food, chugging down a water bottle and filling up his flask for the road. It was a hard decision but Avocato had no choice but to drink the rest of the whiskey instead of taking it with him to fill his flask later on- what a tragedy.

Sighing, Avocato took the chance to charge his phone, sitting down behind the till and taking a the moment of peace to eat his food.
The food was crap- just snacks and cold pasta that was bound to go bad but Avocato couldn't be too picky...not yet anyway. He could only hope next town had some decent food.

The path had been rough, he had managed to travel from a state to another by car before it ran out of gasoline in the middle of no where, forcing him to walk up to here.
Who would've thought there were many zombies in the middle of no where?

Tired, he rest his dirty boots on the till and leaned back on his chair. Gun in hand, he tilted his hat down and decided to take a little nap- he'd spend the night here and move during sun rise.

It was quiet, the rattling of windows driving the ventraxian to a half conscious stage. He was used to dark nights like these. His first few nights he hadn't slept, always too alert to fall asleep- thankfully, he learnt to relax more.
He had only opened his eyes to turn on his, a flood of notifications hitting it

"What?" He tilted his hat back as he sat properly up "No way....There's network here?" He instantly took his phone in hand, pulling it close.
From all the small towns he had stopped by it never seemed to have any connection but yet here he was...getting his son's texts and missed calls.
Avocato quickly unlocked his phone, trying to open his son's texts

> Hey dad! The lady besides me promised she'd take good care of me so you don't have to worry about me!

> Dad! Craziest thing just happened! Bus driver had to run over a bunch of zombies! It was like in the movies!!!! No one was hurt- I'm ok so don't worry

> I miss you

> We took a few stops to gather food and resources- people seemed to fight between each other because of things...Im starting to think that maybe travelling with strangers isn't so good

> OK! Listen! We stopped at this mall and it was huge and look what I found! Pretty cool right?
((File sent))
((File sent))

> I made a friend today dad! Her name is Harp and she says she is looking for her sister- I really hope she finds her soon- I know its hard to be far from family
((File sent))

> Harp and I went on our little adventure today!
((File sent))

> I learnt so much about Harp's sister today! Her name is Ash Graven- keep a lookput for her, please?

> Harp is gone

> Dad why haven't you answered yet?

> Dad?

> I hope you're okay

> Today someone in the bus lashed out at someone...they killed him

> ((File sent))

> I've moved to the closest town, I'll keep you updated

Avocato read those messages, heart hurting at his son's loss...Feeling as though as he failed for not being there for him when he needed him most.
Sadly, he couldn't open any of the files, no matter how many times he clicked it or closed the app it just wouldn't load.

"One bar..." he mumbled to himself as he looked at the settings- if he got closer to the town would he be able to look at the pictures and contact his son.

"It's decided then" he looked out the window, examining the darkness ahead, determination burning inside him.
