It was late, in fact- it was quite early in a sense. The sun was yet to rise but Avocato remained awake at 4 in the morning, reading over his son's messeges and trying to contact him over and over until he tiredly decided to just stare at pictures of them together.

He sighed heavily, a hand on his forehead as his once glossy eyes stared down at an adorable picture of his son standing awkwardly next to a statue, a strained smile that clearly told Avocato that he didn't wish to take a picture but his Avocato had insisted since it was a statue of a Greek God that Little Cato used to nerd about back in his younger years when he learnt about human culture (which wasn't much of a culture to Avocato's opinion- just war).

Last night Avocato noticed that the Gary understood that whatever had happened wasn't good but even so he insisted he ate dinner before heading to bed- though...Avocato politely asked for some time alone instead, needing space to take in the new information.

Little Cato wasn't answering, he wasn't in the evacuation bus which had to be the safest way to get to...well, safety- yet here was a photo of the same exact bus, tipped over and burned while surrounded by zombies.

With further inspection Avocato noticed from other pictures, the people in the background of his son's photos were now zombies near the bus- he also noticed a hand underneath the bus that seemed to be reaching out still.

It pained him with worry, nausea overcoming him as he couldn't contact his son.
He tried to think rationally- Avocato couldn't call or message his son before so maybe his son was in a similar situation, unable to contact.
Even so- his mind was racing with million other possibilities. What if his son was hurt? Starving? Cold? A zombie?

Dead?

Avocato had to stand and begin to pace around the dark room, unable to do anything currently. Before he knew where he was headed....All he had to do was make his way towards the evacuation point and meet his son there but now....

Now he had no idea where Little Cato was...

When morning had finally arrived, Avocato jumped as he heard a knock on the door- the sound bringing him back to the present as he became once again of his surroundings.

"Avocato?" Gary's voice called from the other side almost shyly "you awake bro?"

Avocato only huffed as he opened the door, watching the human flinch away, his wide eyes examining him

"Im...guessing you had a rough night?" Gary fidgeted, his voice coming out as an awkward squeak. He seemed to regret his words as Avocato didn't even crack a smile but instead glared daggers at him.

"I- uuh...made breakfast" He tried to smile, scratching his arm awkwardly "if you wanna come down and maybe...I dunno...talk...?" He winced at the last word, unsure if Avocato wanted to have a conversation

Avocato closed his eyes and took a deep breath as if collecting his patience. He was staying in this man's house, eating and bathing here....the least he could do is try to talk to the desperate human being.

"Sure..." he sighed, unsure if he was ready to talk to him- he wasnt in a good mood but he shouldn't take it out on Gary.

Sure...he knew that while he was using Gary to stay somewhere safe with clean water and food, soft sheets to sleep in and a shower- Gary was using him for company in order to keep his sanity- so it was a two way deal which left Avocato less guilty.

He watched Gary beam, happy that he didn't refuse his invitation. The human looked at him with a big smile before spinning around

"Great! Because I made a lot of food accidently- come on!" He waved the other to follow- lying because he most definitely cooked more than usual for his guest.

Avocato cringed slightly, noticing that Gary was loud despite being only morning (but that may be just because he didn't sleep a wink last night)

Avocato was lead to the kitchen, passing by what seemed to be a dining room that wasn't in use. His eyes widened slightly at the nicely set table, surprised by the amount of food there was

"This..." Avocato turned to Gary, eyes still on the food "this is breakfast, right?" He asked

"Yep!" Gary beamed, pulling out a chair but sitting on the one across "a classic English Breakfast" he made a British accent before placing his elbows on the table and leaning in with an expectant grin.

Avocato lifted a brow at the human that pulled out a chair for him, awkwardly sitting as he looked down at the food in wonder. He didn't think he could eat this much- he hasn't eaten this much for a single meal ever since the zombie apocalypse began.

Avocato couldn't help but wonder if this was how Gary had been living since the apocalypse began...if so he has it good- a lucky fella.

"Dont just stare" Gary brought him back with a slight pout "try it" he smile before his eyes widening in horror "oh no- you hate it don't you? I knew I should've gone two eggs and a bacon strip! Would've made a perfect smiley face! Stupid Gary!" He hit himself in the head while muttering the last words "Stupid!" He slammed his fist once more against his head

"Ah...no- it looks fine" Avocato said hastily, eyes wide with concern for this man's mental well being (if he had any left) "I was just surprised is all...haven't had this much in a while" he sighed as the blond seemed to calm down

"I know what you mean" Gary chuckled, leaning over to grab some water for himself, not noticing Avocato raising an eyebrow in disbelief "Sorry, got so excited for having a guest over I made too much didn't I?" He slumped slightly with an apologetic smile

It took no genius to see that Gary was very self conscious, seeming to want to please Avocato as much as possible probably due to the lack of contact with another living being.

"Its alright" Avocato cut some of the bacon with a soft but tired smile. He awkwardly ate under the gaze of those blue eyes, slowly putting the food in his mouth uncomfortable with the staring before his ears perked up at the taste.

"This is so good" He let out a groan and leaned back on his chair with pleasure

"Really?" Gary gasped with a wide smile, giving a small fist bump with a tiny "yes!" That didn't go unnoticed by the other.

As they continued to eat, the table grew a bit more silent, the clattering of silverware being the only sound saving them from the quiet.

"So..." Gary cleared his throat, seeming to glance under the table at something before looking back up at Avocato "did you sleep well?" He asked before cringing as he remembered the state Avocato had woken up in "ypu know what nevermind--" he spoke quickly, giving the other no time to speak.

Avocato remained quiet, eating his food as he watched the human glance u der the table once again before looking back up at him as he picked up his fork and knife again

"What's your favourite animal?" He asked

"Are you..." Avocato squinted at his arm that had been under the table moments ago, his sleeve rolling down slightly to reveal smudged ink over his wrist "are you reading a script?"

"What?" Gary gasped looking at the writing on his wrist before quickly overnight with his other hand "No!" He blushed in embarrassment

Avocato couldn't help but pity the boy before him, sighing as the blond began to ramble nonsense. Had Gary forgotten on how to communicate with someone during the apocalypse? Avocato didn't expect someone to lose social skills so quickly

"Fish" he answered as he washed down the food with some water, slightly amused in the way the blond froze in place as he blinked at the other "They're....tasty" he added as a second thought.

"Wha--" Gary placed a hand over his mouth to try hold back a laugh "I meant as a pet" he giggled though Avocato couldn't quite understand why.
