Dabi POV

" So what did you find these four months? Hard getting a beer with that class of wimps? They constantly run crying to their Aizawa-san?" I said mockingly.

"You'd actually be surprised. They're a pretty strong bunch. Also, you really need to work on your insults"

"Oh I'm sorry. I thought I just heard a vegetable speaking to me "

"God you're getting worse" he snorted. "Anyways, come with me to the lab?"

"Hm" I nodded.

I suddenly caught him in my arms as he swayed, nearly falling from exhaustion along the way. He leaned into me as I half carried him. "Thank you" I heard him say weakly.

We entered a hyper sterile environment. In the room there were five huge creatures staring blankly at us from inside their tube encasements.

Incoherently Izuku started mumbling under his breath, he opened the book again and started reaching for vials of liquids and new syringes.

I'd learnt that Izuku always worked best with no one watching and drowning in his mutterings. But this time he seemed so much more fragile. Those green eyes were hiding pain and I couldn't leave him alone.

I pulled a chair next to him and with feint enthusiasm asked, " Sacrificing all your needles for these dumdums?" I saw half a smile but he continued without actually replying.

I never really understood his quirk properly. From what I heard from Shiggy, AfO had granted him any three quirks he wished for. I grumbled wondering why I was never offered that but I did know that Izuku was definitely special. The madness in him was unmatched by any of us in the LoV.

I'd once seen him shoot a plate at toga's head. And the plate was 5 feet away from. So maybe he could control inanimate objects? I didn't think into it.

I nuzzled my head into his neck, breathing softly—letting him know that I was there for him.

"So," he started "I decided to stay with Inko again." He said her name bitterly. "Barely a week and I already regret it. But I guess I had no other option."

"You are always welcome here. "

" I know," he said indifferently.

I looked at him, astonished. Did I see hope? Did he actually think he could mend the fences with her. Kurogiri was more a mother to him than that bitch.

Like it never happened, his expression turned steely again.

I recalled his early months with the us. Every night he forced himself to stay awake, afraid that if he slipped into the dark she would haunt him. He only ever fell asleep from exhaustion. He shuddered every time the flame on the stove burned a little brighter or if one of us touched him. The scars on his body had faded but I didn't think he was ..that he'd even consider forgiving.

Before I could ask him anything, Izuku went back into a trance state, mixing potions.

About 15 minutes later, he got up without warning and staggered to the first nomu with the syringe and plunged the murky contents into the beast. Its eyes glowed for a moment and almost immediately its head lulled back down and stared listlessly into nowhere.

He looked even more drained than when he started. "Food ," he muttered and nearly collapsed.

3rd Person POV

The two of them stumbled into the bar. Izuku sat groggily on one of the bar stools and groaned something about granola.

Kurogiri next to him, wrinkled his nose-the smell finally hitting him. "Ugh Midoriya. Why do you smell like a dozen sea animals took a dump on you?"

Izuku replied," It's not like you plan-breaking shitheads gave me much of a choice. Besides, if they see me coming back from the "Villain" headquarters looking fresh and bathed they might all want to be kidnapped."

"Food ," he begged again.

But Shigaraki smirked and said," Now now we can't let them think we treat our prisoners so well."

Izuku growled and said with an evil glint, " The next one better get the best we have to offer."

For a second Shigaraki looked with horror at the boy. He was nothing like he was four years ago. Then a smile crept on his face.

"No time to waste." He snapped his fingers but nothing happened. He looked annoyedly at Kurogiri, prompting him.

Kuro sighed like this bored him. He opened a portal under Midoriya and saw the boy drop into the purple mist for the third time that day.
