Where did you go?

18~ Unlucky

(Marinette's POV)

After I finished showering, Adrien got in the shower right after me and we got ready to meet up with our class today. Our teachers didn't tell us what we were going to do, but we knew that we weren't going to go to the beach again because we already went and we only have two days to spend here.

While waiting for Adrien to finish getting ready in the bathroom, I fold my clothes and put them away neatly, while giving Tikki a macaroon to munch on while he's not watching.

"So Marinette, how did you sleep?", the small kwami asks with a mischievous smile on her face.

I smile and shake my head.

"I slept fine. It was seriously no big deal. He probably just moves a lot when he sleeps, that's all", I reply.

"Mhm", Tikki says suspiciously.

I mean, I'm not wrong. If Adrien was trying to hit on me, I think I would know. He just broke up with Lila.

Interrupting my thoughts, we hear the bathroom door open and Tikki flies into my bag. Out steps Adrien, who's cologne I can smell from the bed.

"You smell really good", I point out.

His lips curve into a smile and he does a little spin. I laugh.

"Thank you! Ready to go?", he asks.

"Yup! Let's go."

We grab our stuff and head out the door, meeting some of our classmates on the way to the elevator. Like always, we reach downstairs and meet up with the class. Miss Bustier takes quick attendance and announces our trip for today.

"Good Morning everyone, hope you all slept well. Today is our last full day here in California, so we decided to plan something for the entire day. Today, we will be heading to Hollywood & Highland, which is a popular entertainment and shopping center here in Los Angeles. Like you all know, we will be taking a bus, which will arrive soon. Once it arrives, get on the bus and find a seat so we can leave as soon as possible", she says.

All of my friends smile and cheer. This is going to be fun.

The bus arrives and we all hop on and find a seat. The day goes by wonderfully. I spent the entire day with my closest friends and we shopped and walked around to our hearts' content. We decided to go to a really good ice-cream place named Ben and Jerry's, it was so good! Sadly though, the day started to come to an end, and our last couple of hours in California were running out. Pretty soon, everyone had to get on the bus again and we headed back to the hotel a little early before the sunset so that we could spend some more time at the hotel before we have to leave tomorrow morning.

Alya, Nino, Adrien, and I decide to spend some time at the hotel's pool, although the time for that ran out quickly as some weird drunk guy comes asking us if we had some "spare corn". Whatever that means.

While laughing about the corn situation, my friends and I parted ways to head to our hotel rooms. I forgot my towel so I was shivering in my bathing suit. I feel a towel being put on my shoulders.

"Here. You need it more than me", Adrien says.

"Thanks, Adrien. That's sweet", I say while smiling.

We reach our room and open the door, turning on the light before we walk in. The sun has already set and the moon is rising to light up the dark sky. I reach for the towel on my back to wrap it tighter around me while still shivering. It's hot as crap but it's a little chilly at night once the sun has gone down. I sit down on the bed while waiting for the towel to warm me up even though it's doing absolutely nothing. Adrien all of a sudden sits down beside me and hugs me in a warm, tight embrace.

"Adrien, what-"

"You seemed cold. I'm trying to warm you up", he says casually.

Hesitantly, I nod my head and stay in his embrace. He isn't wrong, his body is extremely warm and it's making me feel warmer very quickly. He pulls away and looks at me. I look back at him and my eyebrows knit in confusion.

"Is there something on my face?", I ask.

"No, it's just that-... You're very pretty Marinette", he says abruptly.

I hesitate for a quick second but don't say anything back. He leans in and gets closer to my face as seconds go by like he's about to kiss me.

Is this really happening? Is Adrien Agreste about to kiss me? Why did this escalate so quickly? Am I dreaming? What on Earth is going on?

He uses his hand to cup my face and once he's almost centimeters away from my lips, I stop him before he can move any further.

"Adrien... this... we can't-"

My sentence gets interrupted by the opening of our hotel room door and my worst fear comes true.

I did not even know that this was a fear of mine until now.

Luka pops in through the door holding flowers with an ecstatic look on his face.

"Surprise!", he says before realizing what's going on.

I can imagine how this looks. Us sitting next to each other on the bed with Adrien's hand on my face as if he's about to kiss me. I've never hated myself more at this moment.
