Ethan's view:

It is only 4 A.M and surprisingly, I am still awake. My eyes wander to my mother's fragile body, her magnificent green eyes looking up at me and the beeping of the machines the only sound cutting the silence that fills the air like a knife. I sigh and force a smile as I look down at my mother, her sweet smile warming my heart.

"I love you, mother." I slowly take her hand and hold it in mine. Her hand warm against my cold skin.

"My sweet boy," she rasped. "I love you... more than words can express. If anything... happens pl-"

"Don't speak like that, mother. Nothing will happen to you during your surgery. The angels above are protecting you, making sure you live through this," I say as a tear falls down my cheek and falls onto my shirt, leaving a water stain on my chest.

My mum smiles and squeezes my hand gently. The doors of the room open with a loud squeak. We both look towards whoever has just entered the room and breathe a sigh of relief when we see it is only the doctor. His white coat clearly 2 sizes too big for his lanky body.

"Hello. Mrs. Evangeline, are you ready for your surgery?" the doctor asks, his tone deep.

"Is there a way out of it if I don't want to?" my mother asks, followed by a laugh and a fit of coughing.

"I'm afraid not. Let's get you going to the surgery room." The doctor smiled and made his way over to the end of the bed.

"Be good in their mother. I'll be here when you get out." I smile and lean down kissing her on the forehead then stand up straight again.

I watch as the doctor wheels her away. My stomach rumbles and I look at the time once more. 4:30 A.M. I haven't eaten for nearly 12 hours now.

I hope the food here tastes decent!

My phone vibrates in my pocket so I fish it out. My thumb slides over the keypad to unlock my phone. '1 new message' pops up on my phone so I click on it and see a message from Mark.

We found Isabella. She doesn't know how she escaped, but the important thing is she is safe.
4:31 am.

I smile as I read the message. Thank goodness Isabella is fine. I read the last part of his message a few times. I decide to text him back.

What do you mean she doesn't know how she escaped?
4:31 am

The three dots appear as soon as I send the text and I wait for Mark to finish typing.

I'm not sure. I was just going for a walk in the alleyway near that Mitch guys' factory, and she kind of ran into me. She was pretty upset, if you ask me, also confused.
4:32 am

I stare at the message for a little while, my mind running a thousand miles. The lessons my dad used to give me when I was young about rare species run through my mind.

Mark. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Mitch doesn't let anyone walk out of my factory. Once you're in there, you must serve him till your death bed or until he dies. We wouldn't let Isabella leave with free will.
4:35 am

The dots appear once more, and I wait again. My heart races and my hands shake.

Don't talk bullshit. Maybe he had a change of heart.

4:35 am

Look, I know Mitch. He won't let her go. He is obsessed. She escaped, but how?

4:35 am

Unless...

4:36 am

Unless what?

4:36 am

My father taught me when I was young about hybrids... Vaewolves or Vampire-Wolves, in particular. They only occur one in a million and are born every 910 years. The last one was born about 800 years before you were born.

4:38 am

Your point, angel boy?
4:39 am

I blink a few times, my mind racing still. I think back to when Isabella introduced me to Mark. Her skin seemed to glow more than it used to. I remember how she complimented me on the scent of my skin as smelling like roses even when she was far away.

Well, Hybrids are rare. Vaewolves are very dangerous. They are born human, but on a full moon before their eighteenth birthday, they will transform for the first time.
4:40 am

That's comforting. Very comforting.
4:40 am

We need a plan. Meet me at your place in 12 hours.
4:46 am

I quickly stuff my phone back into my pocket, my stomach rumbling louder than it previously was. I sigh and start to make my way out of the hospital room. I look back and glance at the spot where my mother once laid a small while ago. A smile forms on my face as I walk out of the room and down the corridor.

My chest tightened as I walk. My eyes land on a man and woman who were walking out of one of the rooms. They were too far away to make out who they were, but their backs were to me as they walked towards the staircase at the end of the hallway.

I continue my journey down the corridor, my footsteps echoing. As I walk past I peer into each room, seeing the tired, sick patients laying there helpless. Upon peering into the seventh room, I catch a familiar face. Isabella. I see bandages around her arm, blood crusted on her face, machines strapped to her.

Isabella. She's okay. Is it really her?

I turn the knob of the door and push open the door. The door slams back instead of a gentle swing.

Oops.

I slowly step into the room and Isabella's eyes fall on me. I smile and stand next to her.

"E-Ethy," she rasps and smiles.

"Hey, Issie. Good to see you." I smile back.

"Stay with me." Her eyes start to water as she locks eyes with me.

"I'm not going anywhere. How are you feeling?" I slide my hand into her open one and squeeze it softly.

"Like shit." She laughs but stops suddenly as she holds her chest.

"Want me to get a doctor?" I ask, watching her.

"No, I'm fine. Don't worry." She looks up at me, her eyes wide and teary.

"Okay, I won't. A little birdie tells me you escaped." I continue to look down at her and smile.

"I don't know. I was in the room and the next thing I know is I was running out of the building." She looks away and decides the wall is more interesting than me.

"The important thing is you are safe. I have my Issie back!" I giggle a little then stop.

A silence fills the room between us. I sigh and fight the tears that threaten to fall.
