"What?!" I exclaimed, as Newt declared the winner.
"Minho beat you by just a few centimetres." I groaned loudly, and saw Minho smirk, while boys crowded him. I watched them for only a moment, before turning around and crossing my arms as I began to walk towards the homestead.
"Maisie!" Minho yelled, quickly catching up to me. "Hey, what's wrong?" I didn't answer him. I just stopped walking, and looked down. "You aren't mad because of the race, are you?" I shook my head. Minho grabbed my hand, "Tell me what's wrong." Tears filled my eyes, and I tilted my head upwards, trembling.
"I... I don't..." I trailed off, and Minho pulled me into a hug. He shushed me, reassuring me it was going to be okay. I cried into his chest, wrapping my arms around his middle. "I'm a stanger to everyone else, they're all strangers to me!" I cried out. "I don't have any friends here! What am I supposed to do while you're gone?"
"Maisie, you've got friends. Newt, remember?" I shook my head.
"It's not the same! I'm the only girl here! I need to have someone to talk to!" Suddenly, someone rested their hand on my shoulder, and said,
"Hey. I may not be a girl, but you can talk to me! Minho's right, I am your friend, and friends can talk to each other. I can keep secrets, okay?" I turned to face Newt, and nodded. He smiled, "Gally's getting the builders to work overtime, so your new room should be ready for you tonight. Thomas is running the maze with Ben today, so Minho can stay with you, alright?"
"Thanks Newt." I said, beginning to calm down.
"That's what friends are for. At the meeting tonight, we can play a game to get to know everyone better. You up for that?" I nodded, smiling as I wiped the tears off my face. "Good. See you guys later!" Newt began walking back to the garden, as Minho held my hand.
"How're you feeling?" He asked, as we continued walking.
"Better." I sniffled.
"Don't worry. You're going to make lots of friends."
THE NEXT DAY
I woke up feeling pretty excited for a change. But I was laying on one of the beds in the homestead, instead of my hammock. Minho was right! I *did* make a lot of new friends! I even had a conversation with Gally! I looked around, but Minho was nowhere to be seen. He'd probably left already. Newt walked up to me,
"Hi. How you feeling?" I stood up, grinning from ear-to-ear.
"Great! Thank you for yesterday. The game, I mean. It was fun!" Newt smiled,
"No problem." I was so happy, I quickly knotted my fingers in his hair, and kissed him! I *actually* kissed Newt!! (At the time, I didn't know that Gally's drink had pretty much gotten me drunk the night before, and I hadn't slept it off yet.) Newt placed his hands on my ass, kissing me back. (We were drunk, remember? And yes, I *was* making out with him.) Newt moaned, kissing me harder. I felt as if I had butterflies in my stomach, again. Newt began kissing my neck, then my jawline. Clearly Newt had too much to drink last night, too.
