I stood next to Minho, in front of the gigantic maze doors which were to open in a few minutes. I kept my head down. I didn't want him to leave. I never did. Minho held my hand, and gave it a gentle squeeze. It was time for him to go. I didn't look up. I didn't want him to see the tears in my eyes again. I could hear the maze doors opening, but the other gladers were still asleep.
"You okay?" Minho asked me. I didn't answer, or move. He put down his lunch bag, which was larger than usual. Minho let go of my hand, gently grabbing my upper arms as he moved in front of me, to face me. "Maisie?" I looked away, keeping my head down. Minho gently brushed my hair behind my ears. "Look at me." He said, calmly. I obeyed, and we made eye contact. Suddenly, the tears in my eyes disappeared. "You don't want me to leave again, do you?" He asked. I shook my head no. Minho looked around at the other gladers. "Thomas is sleeping in again." He smirked. "And that works for us." I tilted my head, confused. "You want to be a runner, right?" I nodded. "You're going to need training, and since I'm your training agent, and in the maze pretty much every day, Newt is going to suggest someone else." Now I was even more confused. "If the others think you're alone in your room, they wouldn't go in there, right?"
I nodded again. "The door's locked." I pulled the key out of my pocket, and held it up.
"Perfect." Minho smiled. "If I asked you to do something that's a little crazy, would you do it?"
"Is it dangerous?" I asked.
"Ooh, extremely dangerous." Minho exaggerated, slightly shaking his head slowly. I bit my lip.
"It depends on what it is. If it's something that has to do with Gally, then no." Minho chuckled.
"It doesn't, but if you say yes, we'd have to go now. It's probably a once in a glade-time chance."
"We?" I asked, smiling. More curiosity built up inside me. Minho and I made eye contact again, as I bit my lip. He smiled, grabbing my hands again.
"Come with me." He said. My jaw dropped.
"What?" I asked, unsure whether I heard him correctly or not.
"Come with me, Maisie." He said again. "You want to be a runner, I can train you in there, all the other gladers are sleeping in, including Thomas. How often is something like this going to happen for us?"
"Won't we be breaking the rules?" I asked, and Minho smirked again.
"I told you it was dangerous." I giggled, and did a small jump. "You wanna do it?" Minho asked. I glanced around at the other gladers. Everyone was still asleep. I looked back at Minho, and nodded.
"Yeah. Yeah I wanna do it." Minho smiled again, placed his hand on my back, pressing me against him, and kissed me. I giggled, and wrapped my arms around his neck, kissing him again. Minho, -feeling extremely adventurous-, slid his hands down, keeping them on top of my pockets on the back of my pants.
"Minho." I said, as he began kissing my neck. He hummed in response. "Don't you think we should go? The others will probably wake up soon." Minho straightened himself up, and grabbed my hand.
"Yeah, maybe we should." He grabbed his bag off the ground. I smiled, and started skipping ahead. "Now where do you think you're going?" He asked. There were now two ways I could go. Left, or right. Minho loosely wrapped his arms around my neck from behind.
"Right." I said, walking towards the right turn. Minho grabbed my left hand and pulled on it gently, causing me to change direction.
"Left." He said. I could feel myself begin to blush.
"Left. I knew that." I could hear Minho chuckling as I walked in front of him, wondering how high the walls were, and if anyone had tried to climb them.
Thomas' P.O.V.
I woke up late. Again. I could see that Minho had already left, meaning Maisie was probably in her room alone again. I wanted to talk to her, but had no reason to. Still, temptation led me towards the room, and before I knew it, I was knocking on the door. No answer.
"Hm. Maybe she slept in late, too." I said to myself. I debated whether I should go in, or just start working. I tried the door, but it was locked. "That's odd." I thought. "Maisie never locks the door unless she wants to lock someone out. Did she and Minho get into a fight or something?" I smiled, realizing that Maisie always left her extra key with Newt. I headed over to the garden, where Newt was.
"Hey, Newt." I said smoothly.
"Oh, hey Tommy." He said, standing himself up. "You need something?" I hesitated, knowing my answer was going to come out wrong no matter how I worded it.
"I was wondering, if I could borrow the key to Maisie's room?" Newt chuckled.
"Well, why would you need that?"
"Her door's locked, and I wanted to make sure she's awake. She should probably be getting to work, right?"
"As should you, Tommy." Newt pointed to Maisie's room. "You knock on the door?"
I nodded. "Yeah, but she didn't answer."
"Well, did you try opening it?"
"Locked." I was beginning to get annoyed. I could've checked on Maisie, and run the maze by now!
"Hm. Maybe she's getting dressed or something. She'll probably be out in a few minutes."
"But why didn't she answer?"
"I don't know, Tommy. Maybe she didn't hear you."
"She would've heard me." Newt nodded, and grabbed the key out of his pocket.
"I'm coming with you. I'll stand outside." He walked past me, and I followed him to Maisie's room.
"Something feels... wrong. If she would've heard me, she would've been out here by now." I thought, as Newt bent over to unlock the door. He unlocked it, and pressed his hand on my shoulder, stopping me from going any further.
"Knock." He demanded, before walking off the porch.
Newt's P.O.V.
A few seconds after I had walked off the porch, I heard Thomas yell out, and the way he said it made me assume the worst.
"MINHO!" He yelled. I ran into the room, and realized that Thomas had left the door open. As I pushed past him, I gasped. The room was empty, and I soon realized why Maisie had locked the door. It was a trick. It was all a trick. She wanted us to believe she was in there, but now I knew where she was. The food, and water were what Minho took with him everyday, but today...
He'd taken Maisie with him...
And he was going to pay the price for it...
