Daddy & His Idea

"Well that wasn't cute at all." The man that claims to be my father smirks at me. He glances over at one of the men next to him. "One of you, clean it up. I don't want it smelling in here." He's so damn nonchalant. I want to rip his throat out.

"Who the hell are you?" He sends me a bored look.

"I thought you'd be smarter than this. I'm your father, obviously."

"Um, no you're not. I don't have a father. As I told your buddies, he left me and my mom a long time ago because he's a worthless piece of shit." I spit at him. His eyes flash, even more red than before. Suddenly he's kneeled in front of me. I lean back in my seat, completely caught off guard. He grins.

"And how is, Lydia? Still running her fiery mouth like you are?" I shudder. He knows my mouth--she did have a mouth on her like I did. And he seems some-what excited. Tears brim my eyes again. He notices and sits back slightly, studying my face. "She's died, hasn't she?" I only nod. He nods back, respectful, and stands up. "I warned that woman. I told her to come with me." He mumbles. My eyes snap to his and I stare at him.

"What are you talking about?" The man glances around at the people still in the room. With a shake of his head they all hurry out. I gulp.

"Your mother." He says once everyone's gone. "I told her they were after her, but does she listen? Of course not. She wanted to stay back with you instead of come here with me. I could have protected her but she refused." She shakes his head. Tears were already pouring down my face. I knew I shouldn't trust him, but something in my told me he wasn't lying. Everything of what he said was true.

"You're really my dad?" I choke out, my voice shaking. He glances at me before looking away and nodding. "Where were you? Where were you when she...How could you leave us?" I was basically hysterical at this point. His red eyes turned back to me.

"I was back here. I couldn't stay over there in a pack of werewolves--they would've found me. I had to come back and govern my people. I told you mother to come with me but she declined, because of you." I soaked everything in for a moment. There was apparently so much I didn't know about my mom. Something struck me strange.

"Your...your people?" He turns to me with a blinding smile, and I see them--fangs. I should've known.

"Our people. Vampires, dear." I shake my head back and forth furiously. I can't believe this--I'm a werewolf, not a vampire! My skin is tanned, I don't have fangs, and my eyes aren't red!

"No you're wrong, I'm not a vampire."

"You may not look it or believe it, but you do have vampire blood in you. My blood." I continue shaking my head.

"Why am I here?" I sob. "Where are you lying to me, why am I here, and why am I tied down?" I can already feel my heartache from being away from Jawn. Jawn...I can't think about him right now or I'm liable to pass out. His heavy eyes stare into mine.

"I am not lying to you, Lyra." The sternness in the way he says my name makes me automatically listen to him. I have no idea why. "As for why you're here. Remember how I said you have some of my vampire blood in you?" I nod, trying not to throw up. "Well, you have a brother."

Nope, that was it. I dry heaved, earning me a dramatic eye roll.

"Half brother, really. You have different mothers. Anyway, if you haven't picked up on it yet, I am the ruler around here. I am in charge of the many vampires that wander these streets, their king. But I am slowly losing my power, as to be expected. As vampire kings grow older, their power slips to their first male child."

"Sexist." I hear myself mumble before I can stop myself. I always hated all the sexist bullshit these packs and covens had. The man smirks at me.

"If you'd let me finish, you'd have heard that my power isn't only slipping to Fletcher. It's slipping to you, too."

"I haven't felt any different." I counter. He smirks.

"You know the man that attacked you, from inside your own pack?"

"Vince?"

"Yes. He was in league with us. I sent him there to that pack a long time ago because I knew that's why you'd end up."

"You sent him to kill me?!" I shriek. And here I was, thinking my dad had some sort of heart for me. He glares at me.

"Oh course not. I sent him to bring you here, but he of course screwed that up. But did you ever wonder how you were able to hold him off? Any other werewolf that wasn't of high ranking--like an alpha or another beta--could have done that." I shrug.

"I don't know, I'm awesome? I just figured it was because I was mated with Jawn." As soon as I said his name my heart panged. I miss him so much already. I cried a bit more and my dad's eyes flared.

"You have not mated with him. And no, it's not because 'you're awesome'. It was because you were borrowing my power, my rage. You felt it, didn't you?"

Hell yeah, I felt rage. Vince was hurting Ryan.

"Yes." I respond through gritted teeth. He grins.

"And that, my dear, is only a small amount of the power you're going to have. Now, back to your brother. He is the only one that can rule seeing as how we're all sexist and only let males become king," he glances at me playfully and I feel myself lighten up a bit. He's not so bad, I guess. "So there is the matter of him losing power. When the generation switches, the son gets all of the kings power. But you, are taking some of my power. By default, Fletcher isn't receiving all the power required to rule, because you have some of it." My eyes narrow.

"What are you getting at?"

"This, as you can tell, has never happened before--this split power thing. So we have decided, that since you both obviously have some special meaning if you're both getting power, that you two must join together and rule as one."

I just stare at him.

"So...You want us to like, share the crown?" I guess.

"In a sense, I guess."

"But I thought there could only be one ruler or whatever?" This wasn't making sense anymore.

"You're right; there can only be one ruler. That is why the two of you must imprint and marry." I choked on nothing and practically stopped breathing in my seat. The fuck? I wasn't stupid, I knew what imprinting meant--this cheeky bastard wanted me to have sex with my own half brother, share my blood with him, and marry and have kids with him. I wanted to throw up again.

"You...you what?" I asked, praying I had heard him wrong.

"I said, you and Fletcher must marry in order to rule."

"But I don't even want to rule! I want nothing to do with any of this!" I shout, starting to panic. I try to break out of my chair again, having heard enough.

"You will soon, believe me. Once you start gaining more power you won't be able to stop yourself from wanting more." He started making his way over to the door. "If you sit here patiently Fletcher--your half brother will been in here soon." He's stepping through the doorway when I blurt,

"Wait! I don't even know your name." I don't know why I said it. The man smiles.

"Nickolas." Then he shuts the door and leaves.

Of course his name would be something creepy-sounding. I roll my eyes.

What kind of a name is Fletcher, anyway?
