The ding of the doorbell signals that Drew is here, and also on time. Okay I guess we're really doing this then.
"He's here!" Paige announces unnecessarily. "I'll get it."
"Wait!"
Before I have the chance to protest further, she's already racing down the stairs to get the door. Amy follows suit gleefully.
I sigh in resignation and try to gather all the enthusiasm I felt earlier when I agreed to go out with Drew. I grab my sling-on bag and almost run down the stairs.
Don't think too much about this, Skye. We're only hanging out.
I silently thank God that my parents aren't home or they would be making a huge fuss about whatever this is and asking questions I didn't even know the answers to.They would invest Drew in my life the first chance they get.
I didn't want that.
His attention is on Paige and Amy who are probably trying to make him uncomfortable with their intense blabbering and whatever they're doing, especially Paige. I roll my eyes, slightly amused.
Immediately, Drew turns to where I'm standing and stops short when his eyes meet mine.
"Wow Skylar, you look beautiful." He breathes out, taking my appearance in.My lips spread out, forming a smile. "Thank you."
I take that moment to stare at him, knowing fully well that his eyes are still on me. Dressed in black jeans, a white T-shirt and a blue jacket, he looks good. Really good and his eyes-I've never noticed them until now-look so blue. "You don't look so bad yourself."
He grins in response. I wait to see the effect his grin has on me, for any sign at all but nothing unusual happens. Although I have no idea what I'm hoping to feel.
What is wrong with me?
"We should get going." I walk past him, heading towards the door.
"Yes, you should." Paige says, grinning from ear to ear. "Have fun, but not too much fun!"
My cheeks heat up. I shoot her a death look, earning a wink in return.
"Let's pretend she didn't just say that." I say to Drew but he just chuckles, obviously deciphering Paige's hidden words.
This is going to be one heck of a date.
* * *
It's days like this I want to last forever. Days where I get to stay in bed all day and do absolutely nothing, and sigh in exhaustion after a long day of nothingness.
I take off my clothes and trod to the bathroom. As I turn on the shower, its warmth trickles down my body and begin to form small puddles of water on the bathroom floor.
My mind reels back to the date with Drew last night. Surprisingly, it wasn't awkward like I thought it would be. It was fun and turns out Drew is actually a gentleman at heart.
I found it sweet.
I had been so worried at the end of the date about what would happen, if he would try to kiss me to express how he felt. I didn't know if I was ready to kiss someone else when I was still trying to get over a certain someone.
Yeah, I know it sounds stupid. That's exactly what I should be doing if I want to get my mind off him, but I just can't bring myself to accept it. Thankfully, Drew just pecked me lightly on the cheek and I couldn't have been more relieved.
