"Ah yes, of course, let's somehow fight off the army of Obsivian's men, just the twelve of us. Tell me, did I miss all the fighting training the rest of you got?" Alice said, cutting through the noise with a sharp remark, looking sarcastically around before her gaze settled on Lucas again. He shrugged.
"I mean, sure, we haven't been taught how to fight, but we all know how to use our powers well! The only one without extensive training in that area is Sadie, but she's been outside so much she must know how to fight-" He began to say, at which point I realised I needed to set the record straight.
"I absolutely do not. My method is to run, or if that fails, to set things on fire. I've taken a few fighting classes in different styles and for different weapons, but I always got bored before I mastered the basics. I don't think that we should go for an outright fight, because I'm pretty damn sure we'll lose." I told him sternly, because I really didn't want this to end up in a battle.
"Yeah. I mean, me and Sadie are the only ones here that have ever been in or near a fight, and even then we rarely actually throw a punch. You lot have stayed here your whole lives, ever since you arrived, and that's not a criticism, I'm just making a point. Maybe if all of Obsivian's men were humans, you might be able to leverage your powers over them, but lets be honest, he's going to have his best mages and monsters waiting outside the valley. Not to mention that if it kicks off out there, Consequences will be alerted and will come to fetch you all back, so we'll be fighting on both fronts. It just isn't realistic to try and fight your way out." Riley pointed out. Lucas deflated and shrugged, frowning and clamming up.
"Okay, so we'll have to sneak out and only rely on fighting in a worst case scenario. However, no one here knows anything about immediately outside the valley, right?" Lila pointed out, running a hand through her pale hair and sighing.
"I can remember a little bit from when I first came here." Isaih pointed out. "In fact, I'm sure we all remember something. If we put our heads together-"
"We'll have a half remembered, decade old idea of what it's like out there. It's better than nothing, but not by much." Lila pointed out. "Really, we need some of us to sneak out of the valley and do some recon before we do anything." She decided, and then didn't volunteer. It was understandable; 'risk taking' wasn't a part of my siblings vocabulary, and it was a risk they didn't all need to take.
"Obviously, me and Riley will go. We should probably go alone, because if things go wrong we can split." And I really didn't think anyone else would want to come with us. To my surprise, Alexi stood up and came to sit next to me, shaking his head at me and pointing to his own chest. "You want to come with us?" I asked, surprised. He nodded his head enthusiastically.
"To be fair, that's a good idea. The death elemental probably has the most fighting capability." Took said with a shrug. Alice gave him a sharp look and raised a brow.
"So does the element of blood." She pointed out. He gave her a tight smile with no humor.
"And as does shadow, to keep them hidden. However, much like me, you aren't volunteering. Let's be honest with ourselves, Alice, we don't want to do the recon because it'll be risky. Lucas, who was all for a fight a few minutes ago, also isn't stepping forward." He said nastily, despite the truth to his words. I saw Alice bristle, and everyone looked like they were about to argue why they shouldn't go or volunteer, and I knew that I needed to take control before this got out of hand. Again.
"Look, we can say that everyone here, bar Riley, has powers that will be useful in recon. However, all of us going would be stupid and draw way too much attention to us, so I think that just the three of us should go. To be honest, though, I would prefer it just be me and Riley. Nothing against you, Alexi, but I can't carry you through time and space like I can Riley. If something goes wrong, we'll have to fight our way out, and I'm not much of a fighter." I pointed out. Alexi frowned and shook his head, beginning to sign out an answer that Eros had to translate for me. I knew the alphabet and a few basic words, but not enough to understand him unless he quite literally spelled it out for me.
