Chapter 16: Alter Ego
"W-what the!? What the hell is going on!?" Rin cried.
The doppelgänger chuckles at Rin. "Always the first to burst aren't you? If this was a comedy, you'd be the straight man of the group."
I stared at him baffled. "Who the hell are you?"
The doppelgänger blinks at me a few times and tilts his head. "Don't you remember me?" He sighs. "That's such a shame... and I was so looking forward to our little reunion."
'Ori, what the hell is the deal with this guy!?'
[...]
'Origin?'
"I mean I would have thought you'd remember me after that night in the park, I did leave quite the first impression." He chuckles.
The park? Why would he- WAIT! Is he saying what I kind he is saying!?
"Are you... the shadow that attacked us?" I asked.

"Yes... and no." He stated, leaving everyone confused. To put it simply, I am the culmination of your darkest emotions and wishes that you decided to throw away but..." He takes his hand out of his pocket and points it at me, revealing that instead of a human hand it was an organic gauntlet of sorts made of black bones along with red markings on it. "I am my own person, an entirely new entity born from Humanity's Shadow: an Alter Ego."
"Alter... Ego?" Sakura said.
"So... you're not Avenger then?" I said.
The doppelgänger, Alter Ego, simple giggles. I am not connected to you or Angra Mainyu in any way if that's what you're thinking. It is nothing more than an inconvenience now, though that doesn't mean it has its use.
"...then what do you want?" Souichirou asked.
Alter Ego stares at the assassin-turned-teacher for a moment before giving him a smile. "To end it all."
I narrow my eyes at him. "That's not going to happen."
Alter Ego looks at me and seems... disappointed? Suddenly, a blood red lance with two prongs suddenly manifests by his side before it pierces me through the chest, launching me straight towards the back wall.
I cough up blood as I was held suspended in the wall. I use all the strength I could muster, but the spear wouldn't budge. I can feel my power draining, my strength fading to nothing...
