Oliver's POV

For the second time in my life, I feel my heart thudding, pounding away madly inside as if racing towards the brink of dawn.

I try my best to read Elijah's face, but alas, his soft warm cheeks rise just a tad, distracting me from any other miscellaneous thoughts that could distract me from peering at the face I've been longing to gaze upon.

I almost wish I could go back in time to my former self and bash myself upside the head.

To even imagine that I thought of this human boy had anything other than gorgeous baffles me. Years of hate and bitterness towards his lesser species, covering my eyes with a bias film I am grateful had perished.

I zone out of gazing upon Elijah's features, and instead notice the quite, the lack of questions it any interest, throwing my heart back into full speed, though it only just settled. With nerves racking my being, I allow my eyes to follow his fragile features to find his eyes, warm and soft as ever, and the realization surprises me.

In all of the guesses that I had prepared myself for with this ordeal, never once did I have a scenario where he would still look at me with those same wide unguarded eyes as he did before.

"Can you show me?" Comes the question, and my quick mind almost misses it, before I pull myself away from staring at him, tuning into the strange question.

    "Show you what?"

The answer doesn't come immediately, instead, Elijah tilts his head down and I watch as a beautiful blush rising beneath his pale caramel skin. "Your powers."

With my ears, the answer is loud and clear, and I can't help the answering chuckle that follows, shaking my head at his naivety. His eyes cut to me sharply, and I realize I hurt his feelings laughing, and I stop immediately though my lips can't help but turn up at the corner in amusement. "They aren't powers. They aren't gifts. They are just random natural abilities that we happen to have. Powers make it seem like a hero. We used to be famed creatures of the dark. Now we are but a myth living in the cracks of society." I bite my lip, wishing I could force my foot into my mouth when I see the sad, defeated look along Elijah's face. "However, if you wish to see them, powers or not, I would love to show you."

The regret only doubled when he doesn't answer to this as well, until suddenly, he turns his head and eyes towards me, wide and vulnerable. "Yeah?"

    And I'm a goner.

"Of course." I tell him, and the answering smile crawls up my chest and takes my breath away, if only for a second before I'm responding with my own.

"Okay." He whispers and the sound is endearing to my heart. I push myself off of leaning against the countertops, reaching out a timid hand in offer for Elijah to take it, and he does, his eyes looking at me through the reflective lens of his glasses. My breath is pulled inwards sharply as the feeling of his hand sliding across mine makes me shiver.

His fingers lace through my own, and I give him an encouraging smile which he answers, before mine turns into a chaotic grin.

Before he can even voice the confusion that flutters across his face, my arms reach out to hold the human to my body, relishing in the feel of his chest against mine for a second his mind can't even register, before I'm placing him along my back, holding his body to mine until he catches up with what just happen.

His legs and arms hang loosely around me, and once more, I love before he can say a word, and much to my delight, his limbs tighten around me nicely, securing my waist between his gentle thighs.

I feel my neck begin to warm, and I curse myself, flabbergasted at the notion that I would ever blush over a small human that had done nothing but be flustered and read aloud to me since he's arrived half buried in snow. And yet when his legs soften their hold, his arms hold close, his warm fan of breathe falling across the back of my neck, the hair there raising as shivers run along my ancient spine.

I run, picking up speed as I head up the mountain, branches coming within a breathe of my face as I dash through the cool temperatures of the high altitude.

Elijah shivers along my back, but his laughs of delight make my mouth open, echoing the joyous sound as I jump from the earth, the human screaming in fear and excitement as I land in a tree, the branches swaying from the force.

I pull us into the large evergreen tree, the canopy of little leafs hiding us from the force of snowy wind and the chill of mountain snow.

Once we're on a thick and steady branch, I slowly set Elijah in his feet, placing his back against the trunk to look at his face.

I chuckle in awed amusement when I see his rosy nose and cheeks, obviously cold, but the light shining in his eyes warming his face right up. "Since the very moment I became of your existence, you have surprised me at every opportunity. It is not very often that happens."

And dear Goddess I hope it happens again.
