Oliver's POV
"I don't trust anything that isn't the color that it should be." I tell Evelyn but she only rolls her eyes and gestures for me to taste the green filling thats settles between the two chocolate pieces of chocolate cookie.
"It's not worth it." Elijah says while making a face and I point to him and set the cookie down, no longer interested in tasting the horrid snack that Eve is sure that I would adore.
"You're supposed to be on my side." She whines at Elijah and he smiles before shrugging his shoulders and shaking his head.
"Not with mint. Mint and chocolate don't go together and if Oreo thinks that they are the exception, they're are wrong." He says confidently and the mild disgust hidden in his features for the combination of the two flavors is more amusing than anything else.
"You're gross." She accuses the two of us before turning to Steve and gifting her Bond with one of the cookies in her hand.
He takes one without complaint and begins eating it and Eve smiles at him before placing her hand on one of his knees softly. It's strange to see Evelyn appearing to be so down to earth and so... for lack of a better word, gentle than before. It's as if finding this missing piece of her soul and existence has smoothed out some of the rougher sides of her and it's soothing and almost strange or witness.
I turn my head and look outside the window and find the sun beginning to make it's way down towards the earth, preparing to leave the world in semi permanent darkness as people rest and others take the night.
I've been fighting sleep since Elijah accidentally woke me up, and I hope that this will allow me to sleep all night for once instead of being up for half of it.
I turn back towards the others, and Eve speaks up, apparently being one to read my mind today though I wouldn't mind if she and her love decided that they wanted to stay a little longer. "I think it's time the two of us head back to the city." She says with a fake yawn and I have to stop myself from chuckling at her horrid acting.
"If you must." I allow with a nod and she gives me a soft but playful roll of her eyes before she gets up from her chair and stretches.
"It was so cool meeting you." Elijah says, his voice halfway filled with awe, and I can only hope and imagine that he could ever have that same looks on his face if I had the guts and selfish need to tell him about who I truly am.
"It was nice to meet you too. Glad someone is here keeping Oliver some company and reminding him that there's a real world out there." Eve says and I don't comment on her jab at me pulling myself away from civilization. I know that being who she is, she will never result understand, though I also know that I can't fault her for the privilege that she just happened to be born with.
I join the two Chosens in getting up from the table and proceed to walk them towards the front door, both of them grabbing light jackets to pull around their body.
Eve turns to me with her hand on her hip and I don't say anything, choosing instead to lean against the column behind me, knowing that regardless of the words that pass her lips, that I won't trap Elijah away from his human life and friends all because I'm tired of being alone when it's no where close to his doings.
"You know, it may be selfish to want your own happiness and satisfaction with your life, but it's the best kind of selfishness there is." She tells me, reaching out to lightly punch me in the arm.
"I've grown out of putting my wants and needs above anothers." I tell her, ending the conversation there and she sighs but nods her limited understanding before turning to Steve. "You appear to be a good man. Keep her out of trouble, I beg of you." I tell him and he gives me a lopsided smile and a determined nod as if he had already planned on doing so.
Evelyn rolls her eyes at the directions before she opens the door and the two of them disappear into the evening, the snow not even shifting at the quickness in their steps, the two Vampires probably already halfway out of the forest by the time I close my door. When I turn around from walking them out, I find Elijah standing behind me.
"I apologize. I hadn't intended for the two of them to stop by today." I tell him and he gives me a smile that says not to worry about it before he bites his plump bottom lip in thought. And after a few seconds he finally voiced his mind.
"Can we read again?" He asks me and I smile brightly, adoring the idea of sitting and letting his soft voice tell me all about tj e world of our books form last night, one I haven't read myself in ages.
"Of course we can. I can grab it while you find some suitable snacks. We can meet back in my room." I tell him and he nods before going to the kitchen and as soon as his back is turned I race down the hallway to do just that. I find the book in no time and grab it softly before going to my room, meeting Elijah who has a few snacks in his grasp.
I open the door form him and we get settled on my bed, the light on as the light drifts away and the word in the ever burning fire place cracking in the face of the night.
