Chapter six: Reports(A/N: this chapter is literally the definition of short and plotless, but it was necessary. Enjoy. ~S)
(A/N 2: Also Wolf_reader SOWWY I didn't put you in the last one ): oh and are you listening to the songs attached to the top of the chapters? You can listen to them whilst you read the chapters, which is always fun. Plus you know when I'm sitting by the river singing in that last last chapter? The song attached is the same song I sing XD)
(A/N 3 Please listen to the song? Please? Whilst you read? C'mon, it's beneficial, I promise. Uhu. Beneficial. )
The ranger cleared his throat, looking at the three apprentices standing in front of him. Joseph was glaring at Sophie, who kept poking his son's shoulder. That quickly stopped as the boy span round, fist flying towards the brunets face, sending her flying. Halt rolled his eyes at the behaviour of the two; they were a nightmare to handle, and the shorter one wasn't much better. What had he gotten himself into this time?
"Alix, go get me Kafay."
"Eh?"
"K-A-F-A-Y."
"Er, right!"
"And don't drink any! It's mine!!"
"Aww..."
"And Joseph, go retrieve the imbecile. Make sure she isn't dead, that would be vaguely disappointing."
"Uhu."
Halt sighed loudly as he was finally given a moment in silence. Over the past week he'd been training the new apprentices, and they'd caught up to Joseph in that short period of time. It was outstanding, really; they'd managed to achieve in seven days what took Joseph... A long time. He lost count on how many years of the brat trying to steal his coffee he'd had to endure. It had been torture. Pure torture.
The three gathered again, Sophie glaring at Joseph arm Alix handing Halt his coffee.
"Alright, time for reports. Sophie first; shooting is excellent, but I'm positive you can do better if you practise a little more. But you can hit a mark from a hundred metres off, so you pass in that aspect. Unseen movement, on the other hand... Do you even know the meaning of silence?"
"Nope."
"Didn't think so. Silence: Complete absence of sound. Not yelling your head of. Idiot."
"Uhu, uhu."
"Your not listening are you?"
"Huh? Wait, what, I wasn't paying attention?"
Joseph actually faceplamed, the taller brunet grinning widely. Halt rolled his eyes, before continuing his report.
"Knife throwing is exceptional. You have a way with blades, kid. Even better than Joseph in that aspect."
The girl jumped up in celebration, Joseph giving her 'the look', which she completely ignored.
"Hell yeah! You hear that Alix? I beat your boyfriend!"
"Wha- HE'S NOT MY BOYFRIEND!!!!"
"Oooh, denial! I heard you guys do 'it' last night! I totally did!"
All of a sudden Halt was shaking his son viciously, glowering at the two girls.
"JOSEPH FOR THE LOVE OF KAFAY DON'T YOU GET THE MEANING OF THE WORD UNDERAGE!?!"
At this the taller brunet laughed loudly, before intervening.
"Halt, I'm only kidding! Nothing actually happened!"
The ranger let go of his now dazed son, shooting the 'Halt Glare' at the girl.
"You tell me this now?"
"Yup."
"You are impossible... Moving on, your attitude is, like, the lowest possible. Ever."
"Hey! No fair, my attitudes fine! Admit it, if it wasn't for me you'd all be bored out of your minds!"
The ranger just rolled his eyes before continuing.
"Whatever. Now onto Alix... You're exceptional with a bow and you always hit the centre if it's two hundred metres or less. No faults there. Knives... You need a bit more work before we can move onto the double knife defence, plus you gotta stop being squeamish. I know you've never killed anyone before, but chopping up bunnies can't be that bad, can it? Tracking and movement are all good, far better than that idiot over there to say the least."
"Ey! I'm right here ya know!"
"Yes, I know. Unlike you, I'm not blind."
"I'm not blind dammit! I have twenty twenty vision!"
"Oh really? Then what's with your utter incompetence when it comes to reading maps?"
"It's all those lines and shit... They're confusing..."
"Well if you don't take more care in your map reading your going to fall off a cliff."
"Do I care?"
"Seemingly not. Alix, on the other hand, hasn't read a map wrong yet. She's like a geographical genius!"
Sophie made fake gagging sounds, clutching her chest.
"Oh gods no, now you're starting to sound like Miss Gmfnjohupo..."
"Miss who? And is that even a real name?"
"Yeah... Geography teacher... It dun matter, the memories are too painfully boring... All those textbooks..."
The ranger rolled his eyes again. Seems he was doing that a lot recently.
"Well, to finish your tracking is exceptional, along with silent movement and such, like I said earlier. Just work on those knives; I want you practising on the targets after this. Your attitude is brilliant; you're confident, smart and excited to be a ranger. And as an added bonus for me you're not as annoying as you're friend..."
"Still right here!"
"Shut up."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"I'll shoot you."
". . ."
"Good. Now then, Joseph. You're pretty good with everything, although I think you could do with being a bit less like Sophie... She's rubbing off on you, and that really isn't a good thing..."
"Hey! Can you stop dissing me and get on with it!?"
"Get on with what?"
"Showing us our horses!"
"Eh? What on earth are you blabbering about?"
"They're standing right there! Have been for the past ten minutes. Sheesh, and you call me dense..."
Halt looked over to where Sophie was pointing, surprised to see Gillian standing there, grinning at him, two horses in tow.
"Oh..."
