Chapter seven: I don't even know what to name this chapter"Ah, so you two must be the new apprentices! Halt driven you insane yet?"
The mentioned ranger sent his long time friend a glare as the taller brunet answered, grinning at the sight of the horses.
"Nope. If anything Halt's gonna be the insane one, right Alix? That perv got nothin on us!"
"Yeah! And if Halt has anything to say about it, we always have a chicken to set on him..."
Halt stayed silent, not wanting to face the wrath of the infamous chicken. It sounded dangerous.
"Anyways! You're Gillian, right? The head ranger dude? Who I thought was three hundred but is actually thirty?"
Gillian gave the taller girl a long, hard look, before throwing his head back laughing.
"Three hundred? You've gotta be kidding me, Halt, what have you been telling them?"
"Nothing."
The reply was short, but it was enough to flood Gillian's face with confusion.
"Huh? What do you mean? You must of told them something, I mean-"
"I haven't mentioned you to them, not once."
"But-"
Alix quickly cut in, distracting the two Rangers. Both friends had been getting quite good at changing the topic away from anything sensitive, although they both knew it'd come back to bite them in the butt later.
"Moving on, horses!"
Gillian's face lit up again, past conversation seemingly forgotten.
"Right! These two are quite young so they'll be big enough for you two kids. But don't forget-"
Sophie leaned over to her best friend, not listening to what was probably an important part of Gillian's little speech, whispering in Alix's ear.
"Hey Gaki, are these those horses that speak to you and shit? The ones that you spent twenty minutes talking to me about?"
"Yes they are, and it was only nineteen minutes. Don't exaggerate."
"Right..."
"Oh, and on top of that they're not named, so obviously you two get to choose the names."
"Wait, we get to name them? Aweeeeesommmmme!!"
Alix rolled her eyes, before walking over to the beautiful steel grey steed, staring it right in the eyes.
"Hi."
Hello, are you my new rider?
"Yeah, I am. My name's Alix."
That's a pretty name.
"Thanks. You're name is... Storm, okay?"
Storm? I like that name, it's nice.
Joseph gave his new friend a weird look, glancing between her and the horse repeatedly.
"Alix, are you talking to the horse?"
The girl shot the boy a glare that would one day rival Halt's own.
"Yes. Don't pretend you don't either, Joseph. I'm not stupid."
"Umm..."
Silence watched as Alix climbed onto her horse, walking a circle before stopping and dismounting again, smiling slightly. None of the Rangers wanted to admit they talked to their horses, just in case it was only them and they were just insane. So everyone kept quite about it.
